I truly don't even know if this is a joke or not.

This was the Vice President’s response to this article. Whataboutism that fails to condemn the disgusting slop in the chats by leadership in his own party.

Wow. I'd like to say I'm surprised, but unfortunately this is the kind of response I've come to expect from him. He is truly a vile human being.

+1

Just for once, FOR ONCE, can this administration actually acknowledge this ridiculous speech is wrong? I also think the Virginia AG candidates text were wrong. I do not think they were worse though.

For goodness sake, can't we Americans be united against hateful speech like this?

You forgot to put "Christian" in quotes. People like this don't even come close to following the teachings of Jesus. Not even close.

It's pretty common for Christians to mostly ignore the teachings of Jesus.

NP. I’m a deeply disillusioned lifelong Democrat who basically despises the entire Democratic party now, but cannot stomach voting Republican. It’s stuff like this that is why. It’s just too endemic in the Republican party.

Same, very frustrated with Democrats, but I cannot stomach how the Republican party overlooks this stuff with "whataboutism." As a woman, also cannot stomach how they embrace Christian nationalists like Hesgeth or Kirk who use the bible as an excuse for viewing women as subservient.

I’m so confused if someone just showed me pics of these men without the background on them I’d guess they were trans rights, LGBTQ activists.

I really do think the most extreme of these Republican characters are just a bunch of self loathing closeted gay men.

This to me is the interesting question and how it relates to free speech and the Trump admin’s claim that leftist rehtoric leads to violence. The article notes “Trump’s persistent use of hostile, often inflammatory language that normalizes aggressive discourse in conservative circles can be incredibly influential on young operatives who are still trying to figure out, ‘What is that political discourse?’”

I agree Trump sets a horrible example, but why do these young men lack their own moral compass?

You answered your own question. They lack a moral compass because their political role models lack a moral compass.

There’s a lot more of these types of chats out there.

Signal and Telegram are both more secure than US government systems.

That's *why* the fascists use them -- to hide their conversations.

But some of them are too stupid to type their message destinations correctly.

hm.. is that why the government says you shouldn't use signal for top secret chats?

Just saw another Republican try to dismiss this as "banter" "between college students." You've got 30 year leaders in Republican organizations talking about gassing Jews.

The party is like a cult where no level of dishonesty or hatred seems to be disqualifying.

What these exchanges illustrates what a lot of democrats and indendents on these boards have been trying to articulate. The division between the GOP and the rest of the country is no longer about "politics" - a policy disagreement about how much to invest in roads versus solar or crime mitigation via more cops on the streets versus more afterschool programs is one thing.

But these exchanges show that the very core of the GOP is now based on the various '-isms' that civil rights activitists have been fighting for for hundreds of years.

So when people on the right tell people on the left to "get over it" and "it was just an election" - no, it isn't. We are fighting for our right to exist, our right not to be gassed, our right to have access to jobs and opportunity and the same privileges as these fat white dudes are enjoying.
