Political Discussion
+1 re the son. Promotions at higher levels become much more about social and interpersonal skills than job/technical experience. My own team has passed over hiring more experienced folks for someone with the right fit and social skills for the job. I also saw the same trend when I worked in a completely different industry. |
+1 I was just passed over for similar reasons and at 50, I realize they were right. I just don’t’ care enough to couch my words to make the palatable when I think people are making mistakes. Staying where I am, I can keep plugging away instead of having to do corporate speak. |

If you're UMC or above, it makes sense to carefully consider how your life will be impacted if the democratic party comes back into power. This is especially true given the increasingly socialist tendencies of the party.
The reality is that party aims to convince you that you are not entitled to the money you make, to take it from you, and give it to people they consider more deserving. In some cases that means that people who are sick or helpless will get it. But it also means that lazy people who simply choose not to work, or to work hard (and that is a huge portion of the nation right now) will get your money so they can buy an additional box of wine for the week. |
Ok. If DEI policies have no effect on hiring practices, why are people boycotting Target for canceling them? You cant have it both ways. Either these policies give minorities a leg up or they dont. |

Op should support the democrats because her teacher daughter is more likely to earn a living wage, have a sustainable career, and be able to buy a house with D policies.
For the son, I know it’s frustrating but as PPs have pointed out, promotions are often based on soft skills like people management. In my long experience, drinks used as a tie breaker but no one is promoting a less qualified person for an important role just due to dei. And the truck thing is …. Not the democrats fault. There are probably lots of ways you can lead a more environmental life but buying an EV truck for hauling is not a great idea. I do think the Dems have some problems with some of their policies and even more some of the packaging. Like the phrase defund the policy was just idiocy. But the R party is the party of hate and chaos and is now completely anti-science. I don’t see how any rational person can support them. |
I think most are taking a potshot at mediocre white men, not all men, not all white men, just the whiny mediocre white men. And would it surprise you that not all who recognize the short comings of this particular demographic are POCs? Why do you think this is your blog anyway. I thought it was Jeff’s DCUM. The title itself doesn’t seem to suggest that mediocre white suburban and rural men are even the target. So why don’t your people get your own blog… might I suggest FFX Underground? You people are tiresome. |

You fell for the liberal media propaganda. A handful of morons with a ton of influence over the airwaves and internet and you believed what they were telling you because you heard it with high frequency. Your brain confused frequency with fact. Like many people that belong to religious cults.
Reality hit and you woke up. In regards to your daughter, I’m sorry you both got scammed. I hope things turn around. Maybe your son deserved the promotion and Maybe the company hired the other guy because they could pay him more cheaply (probably the case tbh) In regards to the truck, that’s on you. You trusted the salesman too much (caveat emptor) and didn’t bother to research on limitations of electric vehicles and weight. Basically you put your faith and trust the wrong things. |
Is this satirical? It has to be. The poster is describing Maga to a T. |
How do you know he got passed up for a DEI hire? People forget that schools and sometimes experience is not better. I am a COO. Schools mean NOTHING! I also know really talented people with less experience. Maybe people don't like your son. Maybe he's not great for the culture. Maybe he really wasn't a fit for what they wanted. I cannot begin to tell you how many white men think they get passed up to lesser qualified people when the reality is that we just don't really like them and don't think they are that good. You are his mother. You have NO idea what people at work think of him. I see this all the time. |
"aren't better" |
You mean like how the current administration is threatening to "take back" patents to blackmail institutions? Or where the current president calls out private companies and expects them to behave how HE wants, rather than to conform to free-market conditions? That kind of socialism? Or the kind of socialism where dear leader received a brick of gold from a CEO and relieves his private company of $100 billion in tariffs? That kind of socialism? exactly what is your complaint about Democrats? |
How are Rush Limbaugh, Levine, Hannity etc liberal propaganda? |
People living in la la land. This is exactly what the GOP is doing. Giving your hard earned money to the .01%. |
Yeah, the only employer who might care about what school you went to is your first one. After that, nobody cares! |
JP Morgan was culpable for the 2008 subprime mortgage fiasco! They were bailed out, along with Morgan Stanley, and other big banks. Dimon is a total hack. OP, tell your son the truth. He lost out on a promotion because the other candidate was a better fit for the role and company. Maybe his degree wasn’t as prestigious as your son’s degree, but do not denigrate someone because they had a certain je ne sais quoi. |
