Put another way, MLSN kids aren't playing in MLS either. Starting salaries for CS and engineering degrees are higher than MLS starting salaries. And MLS careers are on average very, very short. Pro pathway for soccer in the US is fool's gold, amazed an adult doesn't look at the math to know this. Youth soccer is for fun, college sets you up to make bank. |
This is the DMV area, I haven’t met any parents banking on college soccer to fund their kid’s education. Around here, it’s mainly using soccer as a hook to get into certain colleges, and the prestige/flex of going to a certain university and/or playing D1 college. |
Either way MLSN works if youve got what it takes to play pro they'll let you know if that's realistic. If it doesn't pan out you will have your choice of colleges to play for. Or you go the ECNL route emailing coaches hoping to be recruited. I'm not saying this to dump on ECNL. I am saying this because some people seem to think that MLSN is for pro only. This is not the case. |
MLSN is more a path for a year or so of playing USL and then coaching kids by the hour with some summer camp trainings. A fine career not dissing it, just not preferred by most. |
A family on our teams oldest son did MLS p2p and sessions witb Real Salt Lakes Academy team. When he was graduating HS he chose college soccer and had multiple D1 teams reaching out. Currently plays on one of the top college teams in the country. Scored a goal in his first game as a true freshman. |
Ditto |
Arlington is doing to MLSNext/GA next year? |
Seriously doubt they would get approved. |
Please Arlington sends tons of kids to Academies every year and has a far better college track record. Great for the 1 or 2 players at Achilles who has done well with national team but 1 Player does not make a club and isn’t a statistically significant argument. Show me the track record for dozens and I will bite. Arlingtons top teams (as opposed to its huge rec and lower travel programs where most of the budget goes ) do quite well with Academies and D1 soccer. |
They get invited every year. There is no debate on that topic. What is up for debate is what they choose to do. They say they are staying with ECNL which makes sense as they have a huge contingent of players that make up the NOVa HS soccer scene. |
More like they apply every year and get denied |
They get begged every year. They have never applied. I doubt they would do it unless ECNL falls apart because of the girls side. ECNL does not seem to be falling apart. |
What is GFR? |
Super 2013 until they play a California team LOL. |
Both are a money grab. At least ECNL has the sense to market themselves as the pathway to college. MLSN P2P is the suckers bet; funding the academies where any kid who has any chance of going pro is already playing. |
