Who is that poster? They were on the last bell times thread too and the pretty much the only one against later start times.

A MCPS personnel who does not want to come into Central office later than they do now when they actually come in-person.

You missed the joke. That's ok.

LOL, Central Office doesn’t follow bell schedules.

You didn't get the joke. That's ok.

Congratulations for being an early bird, but the rest of the world is not on your schedule and stop being moral absolutists about it. I'm so sick of the "you're lazy if you're not up at dawn" folks - and I am one of them naturally! It's not laziness! And as the world heats up and makes it harder to be outside during most of the daytime hours, we will shift nocturnal (or earlier) as civilizations have done for centuries. Schools should adapt later start times for adolescent and teen health, the science is clear and the results speak for themselves.

You are missing the point. You want the schedule changed as you are a hands off parent. You take the electronics and send them to bed. That’s not science. And, in the real world people get up early. Are you ok with MCPS paying millions to put in more lights in each school?

We know your position isn’t based on science, you don’t have to tell us.

Science says social media and electronics aren't good for you and here you are. You can find a million studies on each side to prove your point but its simply not practical. Why aren't your teens in any extra curricular's, volunteering or working?

Agree, it is someone within MCPS

We have an MCPS activity from 5:00-7:00/8:00 or later. It gets dark so MCPS would need to pay for lights on the stadium and other places. If kids have to go earlier in the morning to do those activities so Precious Larlo can sleep in, they still have to. And, then they'd need to add activity buses as well. Not all schools have lights. If our kids can get up, why can't Larlo. Larlo's parents would rather complain than parent.

A troll and you don't have a kid in MCPS. If you did, you would know teams already practice with "lights on the stadium"

My kid has marching band practice twice a week from 7-9 PM during the fall because that's the only time they can have use of the football field

How do people who live across the street or very near to the fields ever sleep?

It’s normal. Ours is similar. Not our choice.

I’ve lived in MoCo for 2 years and my children are 8 and under. Reopen a debate 10 years later and it is an almost entirely new set of families having the discussion. I have certainly not been told “no.”

Plus we’ve had numerous different superintendents since then, we have some new school board members, we have newer technology and we’ve expanded the use of technology in general, we’re trying improve attendance, we’re about to change boundaries, we’re about to switch from centralized upcounty and downcounty magnets to smaller regional specialized programs so more high school students can take more rigorous classse, the college application process is an ever-escalating arms race.

The rise of screens and tech in the educational space has meant more strain on eyes and hands. Restful sleep is needed to function and actually learn. BOE and Taylor - do your job and adjust bell times!

When you have teens and if they are in activites, sports, jobs, etc. you might understand better.
