how do you signal full pay to need blind schools

Can somebody explain to me what leaving off your Social Security number does? Why does that signal ability to pay?

I think SSN is only required on common app if applying for financial aid. Otherwise it’s your choice to include or not.

Can someone also explain what the purpose of filling out FAFSA is if you’re not applying for financial aid? I thought filling out FAFSA what one and the same as applying for financial aid. Is FAFSA needed for merit, scholarships, honors programs, research stipends once enrolled?

The schools that care will figure it out.

The ones that don't care will ignore signs, subtle or overt.

A few schools require the FAFSA or CSS to grant merit or scholarships, so it’s worth double-checking. Many do not, so there would be no need to fill those out.

SSN is used to match a student's financial aid award with the application if admitted.

Make a 10k donation the same day your kid applies ED.

+2 Apply ED, don’t check the financial aid box, don’t provide a SS#.

What if you are full pay for first kid? But can’t swing $90k for both kids at the sane time. Many schools give some FA to the 2nd kid.

Do you still follow this advice? They already know you are full pay for the current kid.

Then you aren’t full pay.

But they are for the first kid. This is common with siblings at Ivy/T10s. Pay $90k for first then $60-70k for subsequent kid.

But presumably the PP is asking for the second kid's application, and the second kid is, by definition NOT full pay if pp can't pay in full. I don't see why colleges would care if a sibling at a different school is paying full freight.

If you want that $30k/yr discount for the second kid you would need to apply for FA. So the second kid is not considered as full pay?

When you’re touring the campus, ring a bell to summon your butler.

Works best if they plan on ED’ing to the same school sibling is full pay.
