DD is insisting on being called "Cherry"

Anonymous
She doesn't want to be embarrassed about her name but given her age and innocence, she probably has no idea Cherry is even more embarrassing because of the connotations. Especially for a teen. Maybe explain all that too her? If her mind is made up, she probably won't care. Tell her it's a bad idea, it's a stripper name, and doesn't fit her, and you don't like it.

Suggest Shari (kind of cool, but still leads back to Sharon, which she hates.)

She’s a high schooler. She should know what that means by now.

How about Cherie or Sherry or Cher?

Also all Boomer names.

And..no body will be thinking of virginity. That is ALSO a Boomer thing.

Signed,
A BOOMER

Well, I'm not a boomer and that's what I thought of what are the other "connotations" ppl are thinking of with this name? I'm suggesting mom them to her Her peers may not think of it, but older, creepy men might, and she should know that.

Yeah, no. Their friends are actually named Dick, so I would not worry.

Legally, I believe you may be required to call her by the name with which she identifies (depending on jurisdiction).

I would assume she picked Cherry BECAUSE of the sexual edge.

I think a lot of kids pick nicknames in high school and I would say go for it but not participate. She can have a nickname but she can’t change her name. Her friends can call her whatever she wants and her teachers can make a judgment.

You gave her an awful old lady name. MY 40+ years old friends named Sharon all go by Sherri.

Teens don't have the same connotations and references their genx or millennial parents do. I would personally call her whatever nickname I want.

Also, I have an old lady name too and have hated it my whole life. Its a family name and ive not considered changing it. Most people call me by a nickname that they made up.

I relate to this post 😢my dear adopted daughter Murial has started trying to go by Zip. I just can't stand it! I call her Zip because she says she'll emancipate herself if I don't but it hurts my heart every time. I wish you the best with this difficult situation 😢😢😢

Wow, so nice of you to adopt a troll daughter into your troll family and live under your bridge.

OP has a real problem. You're a kid trolling online. Get away.

I think it's cute! You can call her Cherry Beary!

She'll grow out of it, OP. Don't fret.

Tell the truth. The truth is needed.

Just cherry-ish the moment.

OP is clearly a troll. Posting that Sharon is a “hip” name and never coming back to respond to 7 pages of comments.

Let her do what she wants. I did this when I was younger. Wouldn’t respond to anything else for a year. Then I was just over it and went back to my real name. My parents went along with it, although I’m sure they were like wtf.
