What do you recommend?

I recommend not expecting much from Aromas. The coffee’s bad, the atmosphere is weird inside, the line is awkward, and the patio is filthy.

So which one would you recommend?

I haven’t found a good coffee shop in Williamsburg, but I’m intrigued by the Hohl recommendation given earlier. I’ll try that next time.

Hohl for sure but illy is also good

Sip local

This is a chain (owned by Panera) that has locations in the DC area. There must be better places in Boston!

Also a chain, but local (owned by Joanne Chang, Harvard alum): Flour Bakery.

Cicada for Vietnamese coffee is further away in Central Square, between Harvard and MIT

The student-run coffee shops at UChicago are really cool. https://college.uchicago.edu/news/campus-stories/convenient-caffeine-uchicagos-student-run-coffeehouses

+1. They opened a location on Maple Street.

RIP PJs on Maple and their little courtyard.

Flour is good. I used to really like 1369, a chain of two, one near Central Sq., one in Inman. And does anyone remember Pamplona near Harvard Sq? It had a timeless feel with reserved waiters and basic stucco interior. I just looked it up and it was a victim of the pandemic.

Not sure if it is still there but Bolt in Providence was great.

Humble Bagel on Freret. The everything bagel with veggie cream cheese and the special cold brew refrigerated and served in the canning jar. I wish DC would go to grad school there so I’d have an excuse to keep coming back.
