Best coffeeshop you’ve been to when touring schools?

Sure the topic is fun, but it's like when people give "advice" about colleges based on their experience with a 1 hour tour. Not who I'm gonna listen to. I only found the best coffee place near my DD's college near the end of her first year. Most people on a tour would only see the closest place, which you would find on your own anyways. So not really adding much.

And a lot lower stakes so not really comparable in my opinion. I think we’ll all survive after a bad coffee recommendation.

Maman near Georgetown is fabulous for breakfast, coffee, pastries, and lunch. We went 3 times in 2 days(!)

I live 2 miles away. I’m coming .

White people love their coffee!

Guilty!

For morning tours, we love to get a coffee first and poke around. For afternoon tours, we love to get a smoothie.

It's a fun way to take the pressure off the whole crazy process.

The beautiful thing about people in the same town preferring different coffee spots is that the line ends up being shorter for all of them!

PP: You can download the Maman app and get some perks (we got a free cookie and then a $5 reward). Depending on where you live, one of their other DC locations might be closer to you.

I know Ann Arbor reasonably well. I lived there for 2 years (1998-2000), worked there for close to 20, have a kid at the University of Michigan.

I hate coffee. I mean, it smells nice and all, but to actually drink the stuff? Vile. I tried iced coffee once. It tasted of pain and suffering. Never again.

More of a hot chocolate guy myself. Among the national chains, Panera's hot chocolate is actually pretty good (I suspect that's not what the local-or-bust crowd wants to hear). For Ann Arbor local, I'd say Cafe Zola has the best, though I haven't had it in years (and I'm conflicted about the place due to how the owner treats staff, according to a variety of social media).

For fresh horchata, go to Produce Station.

For Cuban-style batido, try the Chocolate Español at Frita Batidos.

Right? And anyone who knows and enjoys coffee can stumble on and recommend a coffee shop. This isn’t so serious as to require verified credentials!

It’s fascinating to me how many Aromas fans are chiming in here. Very indicative of how little I should trust the advice of anyone in this forum.
