Because Tesla chargers are not compatible with all EVs.

They are replacing them with universal chargers that can be used by all EVs in the US market:

This makes total sense. There are lots of different EVs on the road now and it’s a pain not to be able to charge. Universal is the way to go. Just like regular plugs.
