Some people earlier in the thread and in others have said they think McGill over Barnard no question given current chaos. We had thought it was no-question Barnard but people seem to be really thinking there are major issues right now and that McGill is a well known and respected top university like UCLA or Mich

McGill is not in the same class as UCLA or Michigan. If your daughter likes Barnard, I would go with it. The protests are not as big a deal as many people are imagining. Most people are not affected

Quite a number of people have said mcGill definitely ranks with UCLA/Michigan -- what is your intel on your prospective. Definitely interested.

It’s really not worth leaving the country for higher Ed. Also, Canadian universities love filtering students and trashing their gpas. Unless your child is moving to Canada, be prepared to have a tough time getting a job after college.

What evidence do you have for this? I have a family member who turned down a T25 school for a Canadian college that was 1/3 the price for an international student, and got a job without issue.

I’m not sure if other Columbia students and Columbia alumni view Barnard students and alums as one of their own. That may cut into the idea that you are able to leverage the whole alumni network of Columbia if you attend Barnard.

Thoughts on Barnard vs U St Andrews in Scotland? down to the wire

St Andrews has become popular with U.S. boarding school students, which seems to indicate that it's a desirable destination:

No one cares. You take the classes, you have access to the professors. You also can join the clubs and activities on Columbia campus. Not everything is about a stupid alumni network- it’s about actual number of opportunities.

Easy to get into for any American with money. This is just an example of those students being wealthy. St Andrew’s is not an elite institution in the UK.

Barnard’s president left for Dartmouth two or three years ago. Barnard hasn’t been the same since.
