Barnard vs Colby?

OK thank you -- yes, this is what we are weighing! These are best fit choices for our DD. I will say the few parents/kids we have spoken with loved McGill. Thanks again for input!

This is a great thread! Good insight! Wondering if anyone that knows Barnard knows if it has a cut-throat culture or is it collaborative? Cliquey or friendly/inclusive?

Barnard full of disruptive protestors. Hard no.

There are disruptors on the vast majority of college campus's, at McGill as well. Its wverywhere.

+1. Students have the right to protest injustice. That shows they’re engaged and informed as citizens. I personally prefer McGill. Yes Colby has become “selective” but that’s because they took the application fee away…

And they use the common app with no supplements

Not a cut throat culture. Friendly and supportive. And having access to Columbia resources is pretty amazing

Barnard for sure. The US knows how to do post-secondary education better than any other country. Why go to Canada? Does she want to work in the US after she graduates? If yes, then why go to Canada? Colby is fine but it has a predominance of athletes and wealthy private school kids. There is a party culture.

Barnard, access to Columbia profs is no joke- being a college in NYC attracts top talent, and you will have so many opportunities than at Colby. Not sure why McGill is even being mentioned.

Completely ridiculous and offensive post.

Barnard- people in America have the attention spans of goldfish and the memories of a dementia patient. Is Columbia in hot water at the moment? Yeah, but it is still Columbia, and acting otherwise is foolish

Some people earlier in the thread and in others have said they think McGill over Barnard no question given current chaos. We had thought it was no-question Barnard but people seem to be really thinking there are major issues right now and that McGill is a well known and respected top university like UCLA or Mich

Colby isn't remotely in the same class as the others discussed here. It appears more competitive to get into, because of the free applications and marketing, but it is full of very vanilla students. Select somewhere more dynamic, if possible.

McGill is not in the same class as UCLA or Michigan. If your daughter likes Barnard, I would go with it. The protests are not as big a deal as many people are imagining. Most people are not affected
