Not complaining at all—surprised it’s so segregated. I don’t see white males being shut out of these kinds of things, so it’s not that. Just unclear why they overwhelmingly steer clear of art/writing/etc. |
Oh stop it. Aggressively defensive gaslighting is still lying and an example of what the two parties' crazies do. It's why people shut down and why the middle keeps swinging back and forth. And yes, of course it's a myth. A myth based on a vision of what we want the country to be. Not what it was. It has value. Discovering the ways in which we have failed to live up to our ideals is an important part of the learning process but in order for that to work we have to start with the idealized mythological foundation. |
Absolutely not a lie. And scholastics are judged blind, so yes, basically no white male award winners is a pretty strong indication that white males aren’t entering. |
Yep 100% BS. |
DP. This! I explained this my very-liberal DH and he initially disagreed then eventually came around. When we only complain about how bad the US for failing to live up to her ideals, kids hear that. When we start by saying what our ideals are, our aspirations, then later we can say how we have failed them and how we have improved and how much more we can do - and our kids will hear all of it. Start with the myth, the ideal, the aspiration. Then talk about how we aren't there yet and what we can do to move towards it. |
There's nothing with a shorter shelf life than children's lit. Our kids can get stories that represent our ideals without regurgitating the same lies we were told. Nothing bad happens if we quit retelling Georgie and a Cherry Tree. |
What a strange example and change of subject. Pretty sure that hasn't been taught for almost 50 years. It definitely wasn't taught in the 80's so how old are you and why are you opining on what is taught nowadays? But since you brought it up. What is the key takeaway or message of "Georgie and the Cherry Tree"? It's "I canot tell a lie". That seems like a value that, right now, is more important than ever. Like it or not GW is, and will always be, the mythological first American. He is our national archetype. What do we want that archetype to be? |
Let me be clear, I think we should work and make efforts to change things like this but it's a natural process. Ironically, it's the same phenomenom used to justify many DEI programs. That's why people say that 'Representation Matters". It's the same social mechanism at play. |
Obama did the same thing to NASA. |
Oh my. This is hilarious. Party of inclusion, huh?
I wonder who nominated her? |
Sounds to me like NPR and PBS are about to get canned.

I don’t think this is going to go well for him. Librarians may be up there with the park service. Quiet but decidedly determined and acutely aware of history and their rights. |
Oh this is good

Ngl, most white straight young men are making zero effort. They are too busy gaming, listening to sh#tty podcasts, doing drugs, social media addicted, or obsessively focused on sports/working out/gambling. They’ve been socially programmed - mostly by those crappy podcasts - to steer clear of creative endeavors. I see girls and kids of color making way more effort to better themselves and prepare for college than the white boys. -White Man raising two boys. |
You seriously don't see a problem with teaching children not to lie by... lying to them? |
