The logic is that boys are not participating because they don’t want to. Maybe they view these pursuits as “too girly.” It’s been known that when girls and women start showing interest in a subject or a profession, the white males flee. Interestingly, wages tend to drop too.

The Amish are coasting on their reputation as old time artisans making furniture the old fashioned way. What they don’t tell you is that they absolutely use power tools and modern conveniences in their factories, but refuse to allow their women to use any modern conveniences in the home.

I didn’t perceive the PP as complaining, just noting the trend. The contests I’ve been involved with used blind judging so it’s not like I knew I was reading a white/Asian/whatever kid’s work.

If there was a serious concern that boys are being discouraged from participating that’s one thing, but I haven’t been hearing that. But if you are going all in on the travel sports scholarship path, obviously there’s only so much time in the day and not much left for more time consuming pursuits like creative writing.
