DS is at Gonzaga. Students are from just about every area of the DMV, including some from as far as Gaithersburg and Annapolis. But I believe a larger percentage are from VA (especially Arlington and Alexandria) than from MD and DC.

No thy try to balance Maryland and DC and Virginia. Probably the most from MD as that's where most catholics in this area live.

I had to laugh at the “as far as Gaithersburg” part. My son came from Germantown, there’s a bunch from Darnestown, and then a few from Frederick. They take the MARC down.

Gonzaga pulls from far and wide. If mass transit can get you there, a kid will get there.

Anecdotally, most of my son’s friends were from VA, but I know other kids whose majority friend group was in Bethesda/Kensington/Chevy Chase.

This is untrue. Gonzaga has more kids from Virginia than Maryland (though I understand it used to be more Maryland, probably years ago when St John’s wasn’t as good as it is now).

I just checked because some were speculating in either this thread or another one- 251 freshman in the incoming class -that's compared to 240 for 10th/11th and only 226 for 12th.

Yes. It's quite a change. In the 80s/90s it was much more skewed to MD than VA. That has changed.

I laughed at that too.

This. We're in VA but my son has friends in Chevy Chase, Frederick, Bethesda, Gaithersburg, Silver Spring, Annapolis & DC. He just graduated and has been visiting his friends from all over this summer. So bittersweet but he has some amazing friends and I hope he continues to stay in touch.

Thinking through the application process now that it is out of our hands. Does anyone know how many kids ultimately were admitted from the waitlist? From this thread, fewer than 10 it seems.

My son is in the current freshman class, and I do not believe there were any added from the waitlist his year, but I also understand that is unusual.

I have a DS in this freshman class, I heard from him of two from a fellow freshman’s school (St Anselms I believe) that got off the waitlist. But I think that was probably strings being pulled. I think it was likely under 5 total and all those would be with major help from donors or someone high up. There’s over 150 in the class.

Two from our VA school made it off the waitlist in May not including one who made it off but declined for their first choice school.
