Often they need things on the same day. I'm not getting rid of Amazon. |
You do not need anything same day. Please explain what you could possibly need same day that is worth giving up our democracy for. |
They are union busters. Do you support worker’s rights? |
Like...the American workers that have to pee in bottles on the Amazon floor? Those workers? |
Farmer's market. If grown locally, it will be fresher, in season and cheaper. |
Same |
On the 28th? I guess the one-day boycott got a lot of participants |

I'm not OP, but I posted a question about replacement shopping for amazon and really appreciate all the replies. I think I can drastically reduce my amazon usage.
Question about Target and Walmart. What are the reasons to not switch my shopping to those companies over amazon? What about these stores? Giant Trader Joe's CVS Walgreens Home Goods/TJ Maxx Dicks Sporting Goods I think with Costco and the commissary/px, these places could replace almost all of my amazon shopping. EXCEPT, my kindle. I've used them for over a decade. I rarely buy kindle books, mainly use the library or free classics, but the device itself feels indispensable to me. Any good alternatives? Maybe I'll ask on the book thread. |
Yes, not to hard. Cancel it. If you see something you want, put in cart but sleep on it. Try NOT to login. Eventually you realize you don’t really need to be giving your cash to Bezos. |
And remember Amazon LOVES H-1Bs. Over and over replaces US citizens with cheap foreign labor. You are giving your cash to this cult? This attitude is what created Trump and Vance on the backs of cheap labor. |
and you will be supporting a farmer. or get a CSA subscription. CSA = community supported agriculture. |
Target - recently cut its DEI programs. Should they bring them back, I personally will resume shopping there because I think they paid and treated workers OK. Walmart - generally poor treatment of workers, predatory pricing in small towns, cheap/dangerous products. Also their website has a lot of third party stuff and likely fakes. Giant is mostly unionized and I think negotiates with the union so I feel like that one is OK Others I don't really have an opinion on, I would say they are all preferable to Amazon. |
If you purchased, they're yours. I don't have a Prime account, but I'm not as bothered by people who subscribe because they want the streaming content as I am by people who use it to buy material goods they could get from other companies. |
So my only choices are same day delivery or giving up democracy? Seriously, do better. This a complete logic fail. |
I'm reserving judgment on Target because most DEI programs are actually performative nonsense. I'm willing to wait a bit to see if their actual policies become a problem without a formal DEI program, or if they are really just getting rid of the performative bit. Agree on Walmart. I've hated them since they came into the small town where I grew up. They are predatory. And TERRIBLE employers. I'll never shop there. |
