There are lots more nicer places in MD than VA.

Old Town
Del Ray
Vienna
Falls Church
Arlington
Mosaic

vs

Rockville
Takoma Park
Kensington
Garrett Park
Pike and Rose
Potomac
What else?

There is nothing in Maryland as charming as Del Ray and Old Town and no suburb in Maryland has as much to do and is as walkable as Arlington. Sorry, but it’s true.

There's nothing charming about Old Town and Del Ray? LOL
Takoma Park, kentlands are way charming than anything in NoVa, which is a concrete jungle and no charm or character. Sorry, but it's true.

Kentlands? Charming? Lol

I am pretty sure you've never been to Kentlands.
You probably could not pinpoint it on a map

Yeah OP, those MD folks aim for ivies and top schools. They have high expectations.
We in VA, we have low expectations. We aim for state schools.

A lot of VA famiies send their kids to out-of-state schools and privates, but it's great to know that there are better state options than in MD. UMD is a solid school but if your kids grow up in the DC area it's unattractive to many kids both because it's so close and it's located in one of the ugliest parts of the DC region.

You mean the fabricated village with houses that all look the same and zero character? Sorry you couldn't afford to be somewhere nicer with a better school district

Bro, most of the housing stock in the DMV is straight from the Sears Robuck catalog. Sit down

It seems like every couple of weeks, we get a thread like this, and every time it devolves into the same VA vs MD battle. There's basically nothing new that's been said in this thread.

OP here. There were some helpful posts, thank you to those who took the time.

As for this bizarre contest of one upmanship, really? Where do you all have the time to bother?

I have been to Kentlands. You are not from Bethesda if you think Kentlands is charming.

Do you realize that most of Bethesda and Arlington were built at the same time for post WW2 vets? Neither was desirable.

You will be happy in either place. Both are great.

I e lived in both. They are very similar but Arlignton is much bigger so it has more poor people you just push them up 270 and East.

The discussion about Arlington in this thread has focused on North. Arlington pushes all of its poor people into South. South Arlington is more akin to Silver Spring than it is to North Arlington.

That statement doesn’t speak to the full picture of south arlington. Below are links to homes currently listed in the poorest zip codes in Arlington that happens to be in the South part of the county. As you can see, I wouldn’t categorize South Arlington as ‘poor.’ It’s poor compared to North Arlington. A single family home starts at 1M and needs work, how is that poor area? I remember when people used to make fun of Pimmit Hills just a few short years ago, look at it now. All of Arlington is rather expensive even the most ugliest parts.
