Good save, Carrie Underwood

Anonymous
Few of the popular singers today could have pulled off what Carrie Underwood did. That's because she can actually sing! Same for the fabulous Whitney Houston!
Carrie doesn't have to resort to prancing around and doing sexy moves in skimpy clothes. (Same for Whitney).

Respect the office. Singing for the president is a respectful and respectable thing to do.

Singing for a rapist and convicted felon is a despicable and disrespectful thing to do.

Popular singers who can and do sing live:

Jennifer Hudson
Lea Michele
Mariah Carey
Taylor Swift (no, she doens’t have a Whitney voice, but she hits notes, she sings live at all her shows, and it’s not a hard song)
Katy Perry
Ariana Grande
Cynthia Erivo
Lady Gaga
Adele
Rihanna
Billie Eilish (who chooses to whisper-sing a lot, stylistically, but can belt and use a mixed voice when she chooses to)
Miley Cyrus
Beyoncé
Michael Buble
The Weeknd
Justin Bieber
Bruno Mars
If you want to go country: Reba, Martina McBride, Dolly

Literally any of things singers can and do sing live, regularly, and could have done that today. Hell, go to your local high school and find the best singer in the show choir or the theater program.

But any respect I might have had for her performance was completely negated by her failure to shake hands with VP Harris. She did shake hands with Biden, Trump, and Vance. Gratuitously disrespectful behavior.

Oh, stop. Kamala (who I voted for) was clapping and didn't offer her hand. Underwood (who I'm not a fan of) dealt with a 1-minute awkward silence, and then landed a fairly challenging song a capella before turning around and shaking hands with Biden, then Trump and Vance.

Zero disrespect shown, so I'm not sure why PP had to show some. Clown behavior.

DP. In the video, both Biden and Harris are clapping when Carrie Underwood turns. She doesn't acknowledge Harris at all. She turns to Biden only, who is clapping and then stops to shake hands.

You are making a problem where there isn't one. She turned away from Harris, who was basically behind her. It would've been diva-like behavior to make some kind of a meet-and-greet out of it. She shook Biden's hand because he made eye-contact and offered it and Harris kept clapping the entire time and didn't make it about herself.

You are making an issue out of a nothingburger. There's no drama here but the drama you're trying to make.

This is correct. When she finished singing and turned toward Trump, Biden made eye contact, told her good job, and they shook hands. Had he not done that, she would have gone straight to shake Trump’s hand.

I think Biden was also trying to catch her eye during the awkward silence to give her some encouragement.

Exactly. It can be hard to stay on key without music.

Um, yes. You want to say Adele, Jennifer Hudson, Lady Gaga, Martina McBride, and let’s add Katherine McPhee (American Idol finale a cappella) can’t deliver an amazing a cappella performance? I’ve heard Martina McBride sing “O Holy Night,” a cappella, live.

Poised and calm, beautiful voice. She handled it like a pro.

Did you seriously just compare Carrie Underwood to Whitney?! They are not in the same league. Not even close!

PP here. I agree not even close! I just didn't want to omit her name. WHITNEY's my favorite female singer of all time!

I think Kelly Clarkson and Pink could be added to the list also.

Carrrie had an ear piece in. Could they have played music for her in that?

It was beautiful. She was powerful and invited the audience to join her if they wanted. It showed her resilience in the moment. It showed America. 🇺🇸

It looked like the Clintons were first to start singing with her. I appreciate people like that. Ones who take the first awkward step to help someone else.

I really hope it was "Before He Cheats" or "Jesus Take The Wheel".
