Gunman kills 10 and wounds dozens in New Orleans truck attack

What difference does it make if it’s called a “terrorist attack” or not? Those are just words certain politicians and certain media like to use in order to scare us.

Source?
BBC and CBS have reported the name, but I've not seen info regarding citizenship or military history.

From his own mouth...

Seems like an average joe in the video.

If this is really the guy, it would be interesting to see how he ended up a mass murderer. What a tragedy.

He didn’t end up a mass murderer, he was raised to be one. Terrorist play the long game, if you don’t think there are people specifically born here to be used later, you’re very naive.

Really? Was Timothy McVey raised to be a terrorist as well?

Homegrown terrorist recruited by ISIS.

Awesome.

The instability in the ME is going to create an appetite for more terrorist attacks.

Why would the FBI say that?

My understanding is they said it was not a terrorist attack soon after the attack had occurred. They did not have all of the facts and did not want to put out false information. Or at least, not release it to the general public. The mayor knew it was a terrorist attack, which is why she said so in her press conference.

The news evolves quickly, and I believe they were trying to be responsible with their official press releases.

It’s not responsible to say it’s “not a terrorist attack” when you don’t actually know if it was or not. I wonder if they assumed it wasn’t terrorist because he appeared African American and was a citizen?

The FBI messed up. They shouldn’t have commented until they knew what they were talking about.

Agree. Totally irresponsible. And stupid, given the Isis flag on the truck.

The flag was most likely planted by the FBI.

Trump is right again.

Suspect was born in Texas.

I’m sure they were being cautious. They prob didn’t want cray crays hunting down and victimizing people who “look Muslim” as happened after 9/11.

Makes a lot of difference in how prosecutions are handled, whether outside foreign funding is involved, how wide the nexus of accomplices is, whether additional attacks are coming. It’s a huge deal.

It mattered earlier when people were blaming a white guy, but those posts are deleted. Surprise!

I think the only category for domestic terrorism is antisemitism(anything anti Israeli or Jewish) or if you shoot a healthcare CEO(kill off a major donor).

Guns killing people isn’t political

It sure is political when you have a party in power trying to make sure there’s guns everywhere.

The big part of the story is people were killed by the truck. Two officers were also shot (and luckily seem to be stable).

No, the big part of the story is that gun nutters didn’t even wait 4 hours into 2025 before killing a crowd of people.

If I were pro unregulated second amendment (which I am not), I would be saying that if you want to limit guns you also have to limit cars cuz this guy killed/injured many more with his car.

Car ownership is regulated; you have to get a license, renew it every so often and have insurance. One can get an unlicensed gun via private ownership; you are not required to renew your license nor get any insurance for it.

At minimum, the background check loopholes should be closed, and gun owners should be required to get insurance and renew the license to own every so often.

As a PP pointed out, no form of licensing or registration could have prevented this murderer’s misuse of a vehicle.

Oh okay someone else said so it must be true!

What do you think would have stopped this guy from using his truck to kill people?

What a horrible start to 2025 for those families.
