Are Sweden and Finland really telling folks to prepare for possibility of war?

Europe is figuring out how to have a seamless army.

That's why NATO is dangling membership to India, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, and the Philippines under various Indo Pacific alliances. Europe doesn't have the manpower to fight a war (unless they use the immigrants for cannon fodder) so they are looking for countries with decently-trained armies to help them in Europe. It would be funny to see the North Koreans fighting the South Koreans in Ukraine.

The possibilty seems to ratcheted up for a few years but the lead up feels like it is shrinking.

Are countries like Poland warning people too?

Why do you care? America first, right?

Actually, no. I have family in Eastern Europe and I didn’t vote for your Orange man.

The US is the world's biggest oil and gas producer, and companies like Exxon have said they won't drill more than they already are because it would glut the market. Whatever you think is going on with oil drilling, isn't.

With the debut of the new Oreshnik weapon system, common Americans should start waking up. But they won’t. “Their economy sucks!” *new hypersonic weapon lands in the background*

When you open up more leases, that opens the door for other producers to sell oil. And it would be cheaper to extract the oil.

How much Russian oil / heating oil / energy does Europe rely on? Is that really at the crux of the situation? Control of Russian supply chain or sale of oil?

When Russia invaded Finland in 1939, Sweden sent volunteer soldiers, supplies, and war material.

Sweden knew, with the Germans occupying Norway, that the Allies could not help Sweden. So, Sweden performed a delicate balancing act with Hitler.

80% of Germany’s iron ore came from Sweden. Hitler would do anything it took to keep that ore coming, including invading Sweden.

When the allies advanced far enough into Germany, Sweden cut off the iron ore shipments.

It’s easy for someone, who doesn’t live next door to the bully and homicidal maniac, to call a person who does a coward.

Sweden did the best it could given its location next to the crazy man who bombed Rotterdam to ashes and confiscated so much food prople died of starvation.

Swedes aren’t stupid.

I will share your compassionate post with my family when I visit them in Norway at Christmas. Although they may not share your sentiments, particularly when we visit the cemetery where 17 of my relatives killed by Nazis are buried.
