And then what? It’ll still be a huge majority when the older two conservative SC justice’s retire now to allow room for some 35 year old zealots. Get used to losing! Maybe tone down the woke bullsht and the whining and focus on the economy and quality of life stuff like fighting crime. Or don’t. Continue to focus on fringe crap and defunding the police and lose.

So annoying. I’m liberal and I can’t believe we’ve lost abortion in so many places and it’s whiny other liberals who have done it.

We will be living with a Trump appointed Supreme Court for the next 30+ years. Alito and Thomas will resign and trump will appoint equally (if not more so) crazy evil justices and they will be young. So we will have 5 of the SC appointed by trump for 30+ years. This is perhaps the biggest impact he will make on the country

I really think people have missed that in all the other rhetoric. If Sotomayor doesn't last four years...

I agree and it is as abused by MAGA-supporting Russian and Chinese couples, as by people from Spanish-speaking Caribbean and Central or South American countries.

Reflecting on the election, I believe New York City moved rightward because of immigration and school issues. I live here and think timing, that this election hitting before the mayoral one, hurt Harris a lot.

Same. It's not unreasonable to have some requirements.

It doesn't really matter. Even with her, we don't have the votes to stop them.

The current conservatives on the SC don't know how the Supreme Court works. Or how it is supposed to. So corrupt and so unethical.

This is another triumph of the rich people behind the GOP. For years they bemoaned "activist" courts set up by liberals, so that they could be the ones to set up the real activist court.

Are you always such a complete moron. Our loss of the SC was not due to whining by anyone about wokeness. This was a concerted campaign by GOP backers in the Federalist Society. This was years in the making and aided by unethical jerks like McConnell who twisted the rules any way he could to keep from appointing a judge for Obama. The GOP has been playing the long game on judges. Wokeness is recent. Wake up.

One hilarious consequence of the recent overturning of Chevron defense is that Trump administration regulators will potentially have less power going forward as courts do not have to defer federal agencies. Oh the irony.

On a more somber note, I think Obergefell is definitely on the chopping block. These things ultimately should be decided through legislation anyways.

NP. Didn't Congress end up making a law in December of 2022 or 2023 explicitly confirming both interracial and same sex marriage would be legal? I feel like regardless of the fact that the current Supreme Court says Obergefell was decided badly and they might overturn it, these particular 2 things are safe legally unless the Court is going to try to strike down the newish law as unconstitutional somehow.

The Supreme Court is a joke now, there’s no protection, or check and balances to be had there. I wouldn’t put any hope there.

Don’t be silly.

This is what they said about Roe too.

Roe is easy to understand if you have any sense. They did not "outlaw abortion" as people here like to say. They ruled it’s a State issue not a Federal issue, because it is. Don’t like what your State has to say about it, change it at that level. As frustrating as it is, legally it’s the correct ruling.

That's not what Dobbs said. Dobbs held that there is no constitutional right to an abortion. That's literally the holding as it is described on the first page of the opinion. It had nothing to do with federal vs. state authority. As a practical matter, abortion has become a state-level issue, but that's not the holding in Dobbs.

Correct, there is no constitutional right to an abortion, so it is a State Issue. Read the 10th Admendment.

Ugh she is really selfish for not stepping down earlier. Same thing with RGB.

Then Senator Obama tried to deny Alito a vote on the Senate floor.
