Is this for women’s college soccer too? Just big 10 and ACC? Supposed to compete with the 14 year olds playing pro?

College sports are now pro sports and pro sports people are going to take over.

It's going to be wonderful. 😊

Homegrown players just are not that great. So few top athletes play men's soccer in the US.

Athletes aren't the best soccer players
Soccer players are the best soccer players

If the best American basketball guards and football receivers, running backs, and defensive backs grew up playing soccer, the US would be MUCH better at soccer!
The best male athletes of that general body size in most of the rest of the world play soccer.

So you are saying black athletes?

Just come out and say it

I was actually first thinking about Christian McCaffrey. Most people know his dad was an NFL player (his brother plays in the NFL as a WR for Washington now too). Far fewer know that his mom was a great soccer player at Stanford. If the McCaffrey kids had picked mom's sport rather than dad's, we might be in better shape!

You are right that we would likely see more top black and Latinx players in the US if the youth system was more accessible in cities. We'd also see better socioeconomic diversity if the youth system was less costly. The class divide locally is what is most visible at the youth level. It is getting crazy. Do kids really need such high-end uniforms and warmups?

It is noteworthy that high level soccer in the US and abroad, especially in top European leagues, is far less white than it was decades ago. There has been a demographic shift with more black and Latinx players that "fans" in some places in Europe have continued to struggle with racism wise.

Women's soccer, which the US has been far better at, has some great kids of football and basketball players at its highest level now! Washington State and now the Spirit have Trinity Rodman (People know Dennis but her brother was also a mid-level college basketball player), Sophia Smith's dad played basketball at Wyoming, and she was college teammates with the daughters of 2 NFL players at Stanford (one of whom plays professionally in England).

Sure you were thinking about the Christian the Unicorn

Anyhow There has been a demographic shift because Caucasian people world wide make about 7 percent of the population and shrinking and the only place where soccer is the number 1 sport is Europe. Most importantly Caucasian euros don’t have their kids growing up playing on the streets anymore dreaming of being the next star. Instead you have the foreign immigrants who are working class replacing them.

It’s only a matter of time where many of the countries in Europe will look like the French national team. USA team included so rest easy.

Are you kidding? Europe is not the close to the only place where soccer is the top sport (maybe you meant majority Caucasian place). It is in South America, Central America, and large parts of Africa. It sounds like you were basically making my point that if soccer was the top US sport rather than basketball and football, we'd be much better at it. Canada would also be significantly better if soccer replaced hockey as their dominant sport.

Christian and Luke McCaffrey and Dennis Rodman and Charles Haley come to mind because of their direct connections to elite women's soccer.

I think the influx of international talent is college soccer is great. Growing up in the international club system can make access to and valuing education tough. Those guys get degrees they can use and bring very different backgrounds to classes in Hanover or College Park than some private school kid from Bethesda.

I was using Europe as an example because you mentioned the changing demographics in their leagues and racism.

I’m explaining to you why the demographic is changing.
