There were decades where in order to get ahead in the Eastern bloc you had to nominally belong to the party, but most of the people weren’t real believers. Like most people on this earth, they want government handouts AND the free market capitalist chance to earn big bucks and will look to take advantage of opportunities as they arise. People like Kruschev and Gorbachev were actual believers in communism; someone like Yeltsin was not.

When did the 5 languages claimed Melania become 8?

And have you actually heard her speak those other languages?

It’s impressive she took classes in multiple languages. I sincerely mean that.

But there’s a difference between taking classes in a language and actually speaking it fluently. Maybe she can read in 5 languages. Or count in all of them plus knows basic words. That’s also cool if true. Highly doubtful she can carry on conversations in all 5. When she has been in situations with native speakers of the other languages she claims to speak - French, Italian, German - she might say a few words and then reverted to using a translator. You can find videos of this.

Nonetheless she can speak Slovene and English and that’s great. Jackie Kennedy was totally fluent in French and once gave an interview in it.
