the people on those boards would be pro criminal people kinda like how Maryland puts antisemites onto the hate crimes commission |
Why bother. Most of them will just return to crime and there will be a rinse and repeat of jail time until they re 70 and get kicked out of jail to go take a Medicaid nursing home bed from someone who worked all their lives for little money. |

You all will be shocked to hear that he struck again:

It's time for the legislators who passed that 12yo law to take him in. They voted for it, they need to make themselves responsible. |
|
You have to watch the WJLA video, but now they’re saying he’s been caught and released for vehicle theft 22 times. Time for a law change?
10 times by University of Maryland campus police alone. https://wjla.com/news/local/boy-caught-stolen-car-electric-scooter-juvenile-justice-laws-debate-university-maryland-police-department-crime-spree-kathy-szeliga-law-baltimore# |
| I understand that the minor can't be named but why aren't they naming and shaming his negligent parents? Also, why has custody over this child not been revoked by DC yet? He clearly is better off being a ward of the state, which is what he'll end up as anyway as a prisoner given his current trajectory. |
The minor can't be named by the police. The first amendment would protect a news organization who named him. Honestly, I kind of respect the kid. He's found a fun hobby based on a loophole in MD law. |
Knowingly or unknowingly, he has found a loophole. If he understands the law, he will quit for good on the day before his 13th birthday. If he doesn’t quit, his life will change a lot once he turns 13. Do we really anticipate that other 11 and 12-year olds will emulate him and push the law to the absolute limit like he has? Or is he sui generis? |
|
The news clip above was interesting. He is a tall 12 year old and wears full burglary garb when committing his robberies.
He was released to a different parent this time. This parent lives in Baltimore. The other parent (who the child was released to after the prior 22 offenses) lives in DC. Hopefully the Baltimore parent can make a positive impact. |
Will make for a.fascinating college essay. He should apply to UMd - sounds like he's familiar with the campus |
More like criminals will find 11 and 12 year olds to steal for them. |
| He won’t be 12 forever. |
No, boarding school or military and integrated back into the community. I don't support permanently having the government be in control of someone's life. There should be constraints on the government as well as the child. But realistically society has depreciated because the government refuses to provide quality food production, wholistic wrap around services and money for all working mothers no matter economics and capitalism forces this country to have inequality so this is what happens when you continually punish the poor. |
He hasn't been punished. Is it working yet? Have we tried not punishing him harder? |
| He needs life in jail. A kid that steals 20+ cars is incredibly unlikely to stop committing crime. It will only escalate to more severe criminal offenses. This kid is just antisocial in nature and it is a threat to everyone else’s safety for them to be interacting with the general public. |
