That's fine - I just think that there should be conditions met for release, otherwise you get an extended stay. The problem with youth reform is there are some kids who go in, refuse to use the services, fight other kids, and are released as hardened criminals once their "time is up" who have no social,.academic or job schools compared to their peers. They are also young, and have a long criminal pathway ahead of them because they didn't learn anything worthwhile in their formative years. And that pathway will involve preying on others. Accounting for disabilities etc. , there should be at least a tacked on time (another year or two) if the kid does not pursue fruitful academic, job skills and counseling pathways (to their best ability) while "in".. I don't care if they're at a boarding school - same applies. Not sure how you would evaluate it - maybe the same way teachers are evaluated - holistically. No one thing tanks it, but a total lack of effort would. |
| Has there been any discussions from any elected official in the MD House or Senate about changing the law so that kids under 13 can be prosecuted/receive additional help or supports? |
Well my kid knows how to disable security cameras and alarms, and can commit auto theft while also completing any necessary auto repairs and forging title and insurance paperwork. He changes the oil while I read to him and I walk him up and down the aisle of the dealership for breaks. Sometimes we even just talk with each other as he commits this theft because we enjoy each other’s company unlike all those kids at home watching Disney movies and YouTube kids. Clearly I am the best and all other parents are duds. |
Per WJLA, Maryland is in the process of supporting this kid with a CINS (Child in Need of Supervision) petition: https://wjla.com/news/local/juvenile-crime-repeat-offender-12-year-old-boy-stolen-car-armed-jacking-maryland-department-juvenile-services-child-needs-supervision-chief-victor-brito-john-mccarthy-dmv-09-11-2024#
I'm confused because there was no mention of DC and I read that the boy was a DC resident, not a Maryland one. Also, if he's a DC resident and not a Maryland one, how is he getting from DC into Rockville and College Park? I imagine the metro? Is he fare jumping? Is WMATA not intercepting him as he's fare jumping? Seems like more entities should be held accountable than just Montgomery County's. |
Uh, the kid is stealing cars. He can drive from DC into Rockville and College Park. |
From what I read, he's stealing cars from dealerships IN Rockville and College Park. He has to get there somehow. |
DC give minors free metro passes to commit crimes. https://ddot.dc.gov/page/kids-ride-free-frequently-asked-questions |
Maybe he takes Uber |
Mystery solved. Thanks! |
“supporting” lol. and how did it take this long? |
