How is pointing out how much trash is thrown on the street or in parks racist and classist? I'm sorry, but I have absolutely zero respect for anyone who liters and/or dumps. They are the lowest of the low scum on the planet.

Here's a helpful guide.

Not racist or classist: Littering is bad.
Not racist or classist: I don't like to see litter.
Not racist or classist: I don't like people who litter.
Not racist or classist: I see a lot of litter in [place].
Racist or classist: [Areas where poor and/or non-white people live] are dumps.

NP - You can't deny that people who grew up in third world countries have different expectations for behavior. Parts of MoCo are 30%+ foreign born (and that, of course, doesn't include their U.S. born children. We are overwhelmed and can't acculturate people fast enough, so yes, things are starting to appear more and more like the third world. Is that racist?

Yes. "Foreign-born people and their US-born children litter" is a racist statement.

OK - sure. Go travel in Central America, Africa, and parts of Asia and the Caribbean and let me know what you see...

No where did I say that people can't learn new behavior or that it was based on their genetics. It is part of their culture.

"It's part of Central American/African/Asian/Caribbean culture to litter" is also a racist statement.

Travel to the US South, it's also southern culture to litter. Maryland looks almost spotless in comparison. Source: I am from Georgia.

It’s not “Southern culture” to litter. It may be the culture of some groups that live in the South.

Its kind shocking how crappy some of these little strip malls are.

It's for the same reason MoCo looks the way it does. Except Arlington has boxed them into a smaller area. I got a good laugh at people trying to defend moco by saying Arlington looks the same. No. Those posters are referencing the part of Arlington that houses lots of migrants. Most of Arlington doesn't look like that.

Neither does MoCo.

CNBC just showed it...

1. Virginia.
31. Maryland.

yet MD is still wealthier and more educated. Go figure.

Nope, MD lost out to Virginia. Count me among the people with means that left. It is sad to see how far it has fallen.

MD is still the wealthiest state and more educated than VA. But keep dreaming, keep the hope alive!

You are correct that Maryland is wealthier than Virginia. Maryland is #1, Virginia is #10. The issue for maryland is the majority of the jobs are government based jobs so should there be a cutback or change in location, Maryland would have an issue.

For education, Maryland is ranked 3 and Virginia 6 so pretty close on that regard. The DMV is a well educated area.

Because there’s not enough density for a bigger retail center. That’s what happens when you only allow detached SFHs to be built

THere is a plenty of available land under the dumpy single story strip malls, even if just for single level retail with 2-3 stories above.

So many people seem to dump garbage everywhere now. For a while there on 495 right before the TP exit, there was a crazy amount of trash dumped onto the shoulder....like big contractor bags of industrial trash. Just saw a garbage mattress thrown into the woods today on 495 in MoCo. Sale everywhere else you go on local roads. So much trash dumped everywhere. Panhandlers on every corner. Illegal vendors all over in parking lots selling stuff and dumping trash. Tons of randos hanging out in store parking lots all of the time. Many potholes on roads. Many neighborhoods now with abandoned junk vehicles sitting for months.

MoCo turned into dumpsville USA. How and why did this happen? It is way more noticeable now than even 5 or 10 years ago.

I think this may depend on where you are. I live in MC —No Bethesda and haven’t seen this kind of thing.

I agree with this 100%. They don’t realize (maybe they do) what they are saying is that we are just so dumb that “we” can’t follow laws.

I live near Potomac Village and do not want this to become some town center with midrise buildings. Is the Village an eye appealing place? No. Do I care? No. It serves the purpose and brings less attention to the area. Not everyone cares about new things

There are more government based jobs in VA. All of these IT shops in NoVa rely on the federal government, so a cuttack or relocation would affect VA more.

Right? It's telling that YIMBYs want to destroy SFH neighborhoods by allowing 4-plexes while there are MILES of 1-story strip malls all within walking distance of several metro stops.

Sure. But that's what should be developed. Rockville Pike should be redeveloped. Look at the mile stretch from Rockville Pike going north on the metro side. It's nothing but 1 story strip. That's begging for high-rise redevelopment.
