Memorial Day cookout - charge guests for attending?

We will be serving good stuff like ribs, brisket, crab, etc. This stuff is no longer cheap. So why couldn’t you ask for something like $15 per family to help defray the cost? I mean where else could you go for $15 and feed your entire family, have to do zero food prep and cleanup, and leave zero tip? It’s a really good deal. What’s wrong asking for a little bit of help with outrageous grocery store prices these days?

Nothing wrong with like a $5 fee.

If you cannot afford to pay for the party, don’t have a party. Do not charge per family.

I was invited to a holiday party at someone’s home for $75pp once. It got cancelled. I had gone the previous year and it was well attended. It is just tacky to charge guests. If you can’t shell out hundreds or thousands for a party, have a potluck.

Even when I was in college, I was only charged admission to a house party once. If broke college kids can manage to provide refreshments for their guests, you can too. No one is forcing you to serve crab or host a party at all.

Yes, it would be insanely wrong. What is wrong with you that you would even ask such an idiotic question.

I don't eat crab and one of us is vegan so could my family pay $7.50? What about the non drinkers will there be a discount for them too? This opens such a can of works and just reflects badly on the host. Make it potluck of BYOB otherwise cancel.
