Is dd right?

My DD took APUSH and a handful of other AP classes — earned 17 college credits from them. I consider that a win.

Sorry I meant 7 APs. All the rest honors.
Also a top varsity athlete for multiple seasons of sports. (Not recruited for D1)

She should focus on adding another non-sport extracurricular or volunteer project over the next two years, will matter more than another AP class. Sports alone, for non recruits, doesn’t go that far.

In 2021 or 1991? (I doubt a 4 in APUSH moved the needle at all)

What schools can she very easily get into exactly as she is? I think we will go with those and forget top anything and go very low and easy bc it seems too complicated and competitive. Any suggestions of not extremely expensive nice schools appreciated.

You can try for UVA or W and M, but it is likely going to take either a higher test score, or apply test optional, but need to beef up extracurriculars. JMU would be a likely.

What does she want in a college besides ranking? Big, small, rural, urban, SLAC, National U, extroverted and outgoing, quieter kid, what ECs, Greek scene, D1 athletics? And will she be full pay at even 100k schools, or is there a budget? And even if she doesn’t know a major, does she have ideas? Her AP selection doesn’t scream STEM. Social sciences? humanities? Business? There’s a lot to consider besides grades, SATs and APs.

She does not know at this point. She took AP World and got a 5, AP Human Geography and got a 5, AP Psych and got a 5. Is taking AP English Language and is taking AP Spanish next year, as well as AP Pre-Calc this year, and AP Environmental Science this year as well.

I'm confused - has she not taken US History at all? Is she taking regular US History this year?

Is it too late to sign up to take the AP exam? She might be able to get a 5 on it even though she didn't take the AP.

Given her 5s on those other APs, not taking AP US was a mistake. Whoever told her not to take it made a mistake. Clearly she could have handled it.

Good lord. Way to encourage your kid not to push herself or not to shoot for what she wants. No wonder she undermined herself by not taking AP US, if that's the kind of attitude she has been raised with.

UVA is unlikely. They are crystal clear they want the the most rigorous classes in all disciplines. WM also wants top rigor and is a bit of a grind once you get there. And the kids there don’t mind some grinding. Seems like a poor fit. So: VT arts and sciences, JMU, VCU, GMU should all be great. UMW if she wants small. It would help to have an area of interest.

Midwestern SLACs? Wooster comes to mind for this kid. And she’d likely get great merit. But SLAC are fit dependent, so we’d need to know what she wants.

Large Us, some of the SEC school are more relaxed Greek life and sports interest her.

Pitt rolling decision

She took AP World last year, Honors US this year. She absolutely refused to take APUSH bc of other people’s experience with it…
