Thoughts on old musicians still performing

It’s awful — but boomers just go and get wasted at them, if not also do edibles, and relive the glory years.

That isn’t it. It’s misogyny (internalized or otherwise).

I disagree. It’s if the movements are still smooth. If they are awkward it looks painful.

Also disagree. People have made fun of Justin Timberlake’s moves (he is obviously not as old, but I don’t think a male performer is above being criticized).

Cher.

Over weight Axel Rose.
Almost any 60's, 70's act.

I saw Elton John at his farewell tour and he was fabulous! Billy Joel at Nats Park - heavenly! Cher was incredible just a few years ago. Tony Bennett, unbelievable in his 80s with Lady Gaga. Now Madonna - I walked out on her penultimate show downtown at the stadium but I chalked that up to acoustics.

The Cher concert over National Harbor that I went to a few years ago actually had several videos of her singing in between actual performances of her singing. I assumed to give her in concert breaks.

Yes, and it worked.

Even Elton John sounded good when we saw him a couple of years ago. He can’t hit the high notes so he tweaked the melody.

For those who think it’s “hilarious” to hear about older performers’ infirmities, that just shows how immature you are, regardless of your age. Performers keep going for all sorts of reasons and you are free to avoid their concerts if you want. If you do the math and figure out a performer’s age, you can decide whether to take a chance on that show. While I’m not interested in seeing Madonna gyrate and, yes , I think it would look odd, I am a little impressed that most of these people are still putting themselves out there.

I think it’s hilarious to perform with your tissues handy on stage and to lip sync or not sing at all. It’s a funny image. I think some people should hang it up. Lots of people keep doing things too long and some performers do too. It’s funny. Who cares?

I went to two McCartney shows in the last ten years and he was just fabulous. What's even more is that he continues to churn out amazing melodies to this date. I think he's just made from a different material than mere mortals.

Just saw the Doobies, Santana and Chicago a few years ago, and they were all great. Boomers like me will continue to come out for the greatest bands in the history of popular music, just as long as they (and us) are still kickin’ and ROCKIN’🎸🎶‼️

My teenage son loves ELO. He was so excited that Jeff Lynne is touring again and we’re all going to the concert. DS would certainly go see The Rolling Stones if that was an option.
