Thoughts on old musicians still performing

What about Rod Stewart ? We tried to see him twice, both shows were canceled. It's beyond time for him to retire.

I don't go to a lot of concerts but will go to the occasional one. The last one I went to, the oldster was jumping a bit around the stage. I just wanted to enjoy his presence and his music without worrying that he was going to fall off the stage or trip and break a hip, lol. No need for any jumping around. We just want to enjoy one more concert with our favorite artists.

That isn’t it. It’s misogyny (internalized or otherwise).

MJ was the first artist I thought of when I saw the title. He and Steven Tyler bug me in their grandpa spandex.

I disagree. It’s if the movements are still smooth. If they are awkward it looks painful.

Yabbut Bob Dylan has been giving lousy performances for years. My brother saw him in the 80s and he played with his back to the audience. Every song sounded the same.

I agree with others that too many of these performers surround themselves with yes people. Some can pull it off, but many can't.

Cher.
Elton John.
Paul McCartney
Over weight Axel Rose.
Almost any 60's, 70's act.

Don't forget fat Billy Joel and that awful song they let him do on the Grammys.

Is there a concert venue that is being monopolized by these oldsters?

Yes. We call it Wolf Trap.

We call it Jiffy Lube.

I am still happy to see Dead and Co with 70+ Bobby Weir rocking out but there’s a hilarious online video of old Deadheads dancing at Jiffy Lube while a young Black security guard watches them with the funniest WTF face you have ever seen.

I saw Willie a few years ago. Pretty terrible - he doesn’t even pretend to try to keep a beat

Obscure, but I saw Alejandro Escovedo recently. He was amaaazing. Really rocked. 73 years old.

Not obscure. Alejandro E is immensely talented. Did not realize he was in 70s.

Google Frankie Valli’s recent “performances.” He’s like 90 years old and his back up singers belt out like 95% of the vocal while he shuffles around and pretends to sing every now and then. In one video, he even had a stool set up for his liquids, tissues and other things needed to get him through the performance.

Wolf Trap can’t even get acts this good lately.

The stories about these performers are so funny and sad!

Keith Richards used to say that old R and B guys played their whole lives and he wanted to be like they were when he got old. But that probably meant playing in a club, not dancing and probably even sitting down! It's comical to think of these performers getting winded, letting their backup singers do the work, etc.
