Can someone explain the allure of Nordstrom Rack (and other discount stores)?

This. Shopping on line doesn't work for me. I'm not skinny so everything is work because sizes are all over the place. I have to order 10 items to find one that works. Dealing with returns sucks and some stores that I like have terrible return policies. I miss Woodies.

Skinny has nothing to do with it. Sizes are all over the place for everyone. I’m solidly a 4. Online orders range from 00 to 6 and XS to XXL.

Filtering by material is nice, but you have to watch out for jewelry at Nordstrom Rack. They have a nasty tendency to label plated brass as Silver Vermeil. I’m surprised they haven’t been sued over it.

This was a typical scenario on Hoarders. Some shopped high end, some shopped Target, some thrift stores, but they brought home stuff and never used it or gave it to anyone (and many said they were buying things for others). One woman would just throw the bag into a room with hundreds of other bags. Another woman bought towels all the time. She had a lasagna stack of towels. Show was eye-opening.

Let’s see, I once bought three Lafayette 148 jackets for a lot less than the original price of one. I got a heavy silk tuxedo scarf for under $5. I got a Fleurette wool coat for under $200. That’s not counting the many pairs of shoes that I’ve purchased over the years. If you like to shop and recognize quality, there are excellent bargains to be found.

I’ve found great things at NR. Also there is one right by my work so I can get regular Nordstrom stuff shipped and/or returned there.

My adult children have extremely large feet - size 11 for the girls, 16 for one son - and have found shoes for them that no one else carries. I'm guessing someone had them somewhere and no one bought them so they ended up at Rack. That's why I look there.

I used to work in Boston and go to the original Filene's Basement in boston, the one with the automatic markdown. I remember getting Pringle cashmere sweaters for 15 bucks, Ferragamo shoes for 30 bucks, that kind of thing.

Occam's Razor says you're just mad you paid full price for something that later ended up on a clearance rack.

Not PP, and I shop discount stores, but I agree that the "original price" stickers are total BS. Very little of Nordstrom Racks merch is actually discounted designer. It is mostly stuff manufactured specifically for discount or outlet stores. That's not a dig, and you can certainly find some quality merchandise in these stores on occasion.

I love buying Boden for my kids from the Nordstrom Rack.

I got a great Madewell tote for a bargain.

The shoes are the best, though. NAOTs at 1/3 off? Yes please.

I don't find something every time, but that's fine. It's a great place to get Nordstrom clothes at a discount, but you have to be picky. There is better stuff on the clearance racks than on the main shelves there. That's why they are so crowded. Things come straight from the Nordstrom clearance racks to the Nordstrom Rack clearance racks.

I've only purchased accessories like wallets and a purse. Literally the same things from Nordstrom's.
