What do you think of when someone has lash extensions?

I have a neighbor who had to dress up “full glam” and go to concerts, charity events, and awards dinners for her job 2-3 nights a week. She has lash extensions but they are not gaudy or obnoxious looking.

The people I know who always have manicured nails with almond shaped extensions, lash extensions, laminated and dyed brows, blow out perfect hair, etc. are people whose profession depends on their appearance to some extent. When I see a mom at the PTA meeting or soccer practice in sweats with no makeup - but lashes and nails - I assume she also has a glam job and I think “better her than me!”

I’m genuinely curious what are these jobs in DC that require a glam look. Sales, news anchor, real housewife, and hairstylist come to mind. Even that is a stretch that acrylics and laminated brows are “required”. What else?

Waitress/bartender n any trendy restaurant (eyelashes, fake nails, dyed hair, piercings, tattoos).

The whole look of spider lashes, fake nails, Botox, lip fillers, bolt on breasts just give the allure of sadness and total desperation op. That's a fact.

I don't wear lash extensions because I'm lazy but I have friends who do and you would never guess it. They look like nice normal lashes with zero mascara clumping because no mascara needed.

This was me except at some point they no longer wanted to do them that subtle and I had to stop going.

I don’t care really if they know they’re fake lashes, but do they think I look crazy? Or vain?

I think anything that looks impossible through natural means will look slightly suspect of you.

With that said, I use Latisse and sometimes my lashes do grow to indecent lengths. With mascara on, it's quite pronounced.

I feel happy that you feel pretty with them! We all have a little indulgence that makes us feel cuter or younger or fitter or smarter or better.

And I do put on makeup, color my hair, all that prepping stuff, so I’m not against beauty products. Just not those ridiculous lashes.

I agree.

You don't get out much. I spend $400 a month on my lashes. You can't tell. It's a commitment though.

Then why spend $400 on lashes if no one can tell?

By the way, what an enormous waste of money. What is so wrong with your real lashes? $4,800 a year on eyelashes is really sad.

I can tell. They look pretty. I spend a lot on upkeep. I also get my hair and nails done weekly. I make a lot and save a lot. My retirement goals are being met!

It would be a waste of money for you, but not for me. Especially, because I can afford it.

It's the time wasted I wouldn't do.

As we can see from deleted posts it's definitely based in race if you hate the look.

Seek therapy.

Therapy for what?

I generally think, "Wow, that person spends a lot of time and money on eyelashes".

Time wasted to look good is good time spent!

If they’re noticeable - teen mom vibes.

When I see them I think: high class, probably well educated, old family money, cut-glass accent, clothes will be tailored and understated. I dunno, that's just me.

The only women I know who wear the fake lashes are white hair stylists.

The ones that are done well aren't noticeable.
