NP here who can also assure you that the ECNL boys coaching slate posted above is accurate. It was shared with Arlington parents via email yesterday (3/11). I'm sure it will be made public sooner rather than later. Word was already out within Arlington soccer circles prior to the coaching slate email that Elvin was coming over from VDA. I don't know Elvin at all but one of my friends who does actually spoke to him yesterday. He's definitely coming to Arlington. |

He's been coaching Herndon and VDA. |
| Folks had said last week that JW was at Arlington ID sessions so makes sense now. I wonder how many Union boys he will bring over. I’m sure Arl parents aren’t happy |
He is listed as the head coach for VDA 2024-2025.

lol. Good stuff. The Union team that is one of the worst in the area and was just humiliated 6-0 by Arlington on Saturday? |
He will probably take two or three players. Arlington's best 2010 player used to play in Union. |
| Arlington playing chess while McLean playing checkers. It’s not rocket science. Keep your best coaches even in down years and come out ahead in the long run. Only an idiot will think replacing JW and AP with Brave coaches is a good move for the club. Arlington is making out like a bandit on the boys side. They don’t need the players. They are taking coaching talent. Few understand this. |
This is the truest post on this entire board. Should be posted and reposted. Of course there are players who are clearly the best - for the rest of the better/best players, the louder the parent, the higher the team placement. Especially in Arlington, where many of the coaches are weak, incompetent and incapable of adult communication. They get steamrolled by the overbearing parents. |
| So where is AP going? Aren’t they a package deal? |
I am certain that it will not work that way. Why would it? He has a different employer. They do not need to hire coaches to bring over players who were unlikely to make that team in the first place, and those who were good enough to make it would make it without their former coach. I know models vary quite a bit, but kids should have different coaches over time. You stop learning when you've heard the same thing over and over again, and the coaches stop teaching when they see the same thing over and over again. Different coaches often see very different things and will approach both team and player development. |
At this juncture, both organizations are treading water as best they can on the boys side as the top talent tilts significantly to MLS Next. It is a shame because the coaching staff at Arlington's academy at U13-18 has been the best in this area for the past five years. They should have the keys to the whole shop so they can do something with U9-12 development over there, which gives them a pipeline that is less than optimal. |
