This kind of gaslighting and dismissiveness of parents, students and staff’s real and valid lived experiences is not ok.

It is you, with your corrosive attempt at erasure and suppression, that has the political agenda. Our schools have real safety and security problems that need to be confronted and solved. Not ignored and denied. You are the problem.

I what your anger, but it would be more helpful for.you to share your lived experience and how it contrasts with what PP has described. Otherwise you will get dismissed as a troll.

The trolls are trying to play up these problems to push their pro-SRO agenda. I would dismiss 90% of it as hype.

3 locker room rapes in MCPS high schools in two years.
Is that the hype you are referring to?

So the "lived experience" you were referring to is your lived experience of reading 3 year old news reports about incidents at MCPS high schools that are not the topic of this thread?

Apparently, they're focused on things that happened somewhere other than Blair several years ago to make their case for the fall of civilization.

A ghost gun was found on a Blair student at the beginning of this very school year. What are you talking about? Serious safety issues happened and keep happening at Blair. You just pretend otherwise.

Never heard that. The worst things I heard were about some kid with a knife at Whatiman and some drunk kids at BCC.

The article was posted earlier in this thread: https://wjla.com/news/local/ghost-gun-montgomery-blair-high-school-firearm-possession-school-property-safety-concerns-violence-county-police-mcpd-students-custody

Furthermore, the principal sent a community letter to families about it. How did you miss it?

I'm more concerned about the kids with a real gun at WJ, the bathroom drug use at BCC, or kids with knives running around the Whitman parking lot. These incidents at the W's are just as recent but more frightening.

Sounds like Blair is a lot safer than those W's.

DCUM: It's always Blair and the W's. Sometimes Poolesville is jumping up and down, waving arms, "Over here!"

Many W parents suffer from a bad case of Blair envy. They will talk a lot of trash but suspect it's to create waitlist movement.

lol. no. no envy.

Blair's college rank says it all.

Babe, no one is envious of Blair. Seriously. Blair is only good if you're in the magnet program, but it's nerdy. There are much better high school options (non Ws too) that provide a better high school experience for most kids.

So my gen pop kid in Blair is…stupid? Getting a sub par education? Heading to a state flagship with significant merit based solely on her good looks and personality? All of the above?

I wonder how many of the folks on this thread are repeat posters. Why can't we just agree that there are many great HS options in MoCo?

My kids are at Blair, and they are absolutely thriving. The same kid would probably thrive at B-CC or RM or any other school.

I don't know why folks in this area are so nasty, but why not just be happy we live someplace with strong options no matter your income, commute needs, etc?

My kids at Blair are thriving as well. It’s not the school, it’s the kid. But people need to rationalize their choice to live in a fancier school district any way they can. If they think their kid is getting a much better education, because they need to believe that to justify their choices, then I say let them. Everyone is entitled to some delusion in their life.

Zoned for blair and our dcc pick was basically "anything but Blair." Reasons: the kids we knew from middle school, the size of the school, and the heavy stem focus. Also, not really a fan of CAP, it's more focused on journalism and public speaking than humanities.

Many of our neighbors love Blair. We toured and did not.

There's a poster on here that repeatedly claims that there is Blair envy; and many people find it very boastful and ridiculous, so it ignites the back and fourth.

okay Marie Antoinette,
looking at the crime database, so far this school year alone, there have been 6 rapes at schools (2 were with and an "object") and 24 sexual assaults

If you're okay with these numbers as status quo, then lucky you to be in a "good" school, and the rest of us will just have to "eat our cake"

Hey if you want to talk about stats in MCPS that's fine but this thread is about Blair specifically. Also nobody takes you seriously if you act like you or your child has some "lived experience" at Blair when in fact you are someone who has no personal experience with the school at all.

It seems like with WJ kids bringing handguns to school, knife-wielding kids at Churchill, and BCC kids passing out drunk in the bathroom or jacking cars on their lunch break, they should start a thread about safety at the W's.

Np and not at Blair or a W.
Do you have links to these stories?
I just don't know where people get this information (I mean this sincerely). I am not on social media.
A lot of the stuff on this forum just shocks me.

People discussed each of these incidents at length here, but google turns up links to local media stories for each of them.

We are in the Churchill zone but had one child at Blair who recently graduated. Blair is a great school and our family loves it a lot more than Churchill but there's no such thing as Blair envy.
It's something insecure parents have made up to make themselves feel better. We've noticed DCC parents spend a lot of time thinking about and putting down the W schools. They compare stats like college admissions and test scores and celebrate when their area seems to do better by some measure. But no one we know at the Ws thinks about the DCC, much less Blair, other than the magnet, at all. It's a weird made up competition by one side only.

There is a lot of resentment directed toward the magnet. Maybe it's parents who felt snubbed. I don't honestly know, but just reading this thread it seems very real.

I’m not100% sure it’s envy, per se, but coming to the realization that they paid a premium to get in a “good” school zone, when in fact they could have paid much much less in the Blair zone and gotten the same exact education. They HAVE to cut down Blair to make their choices/investment worthwhile. Otherwise what separates them from those slackers in the DCC?
Anonymous
I assure you there are a lot of parents in Kensington who spend a lot of time worrying about the DCC and the implications of getting rezoned to it. Those of us nearby who are zoned to the DCC find it kind of funny.

Nailed it!

I think everyone just made the point about DCC people thinking too much about W school people and them not thinking anything about the DCC.

All these posts are DCC people saying W people cut them down but really in all the years of reading things I rarely really see any criticism of Blair at all. On the rare occasion when someone posts something negative -and it's usually someone identifying themselves as a Blair parent - they accuse that person of being a W parent masquerading as a Blair parent making up lies. Get a grip people. W parents are not doing that!
