safety of MCPS/Blair

This kind of gaslighting and dismissiveness of parents, students and staff’s real and valid lived experiences is not ok.

It is you, with your corrosive attempt at erasure and suppression, that has the political agenda. Our schools have real safety and security problems that need to be confronted and solved. Not ignored and denied. You are the problem.

I what your anger, but it would be more helpful for.you to share your lived experience and how it contrasts with what PP has described. Otherwise you will get dismissed as a troll.

You took the words out of my mouth. I've had three kids go through Blair. These problems are easily ignored.

DP
It’s not gaslighting to say what your experience is. My kids haven’t had a problem nor do they feel unsafe. I’d say that’s the same experience of the majority of kids there. Blair has the same amount of problems that other public schools have. As they have since the dawn of time. This is nothing new. No gaslighting necessary.

The trolls are trying to play up these problems to push their pro-SRO agenda. I would dismiss 90% of it as hype.

My kid switched from private to chichi private to Blair and is very happy and feels safe. She sees some roughhousing and an occasional fight that doesn't affect her and she says is broken up in 10 seconds. But she loves the diversity, the size, and hasn't second guessed her decision once.

1) one kid brought a pellet gun to school - it was quickly dealt with by school and police

2) one child was acting “erratically”. That child was taken to the nurse and then to the hospital in an ambulance.

My kid wasn’t aware of either incident until I told him. Those are the only things I can recall this year other than the bomb threats that went to several MCPS high schools and middle schools and were ultimately chalked up to a hoax perpetrated by a 12 year old.

He has never seen a fight in the hallway or, as previously mentioned, had any issues in the bathroom.

A ghost gun was brought onto campus at the beginning of this school year as well: https://wjla.com/news/local/ghost-gun-montgomery-blair-high-school-firearm-possession-school-property-safety-concerns-violence-county-police-mcpd-students-custody

It wasn't just the pellet gun. I thought there was a knife too?

Let's conflate all of MCPS issues into one school! Keep it interesting.

Yes, in June.

+1
I don't think you or your kid will like it.

I would agree. Your student already has a cohort of friends from her current school, some of whom may go to a private HS that you may be considering. Blair is big, busy, and overcrowded. If your child has a few friends going to Blair, that would be helpful. They will figure out how to avoid the trouble that occurs. My son figured out how to avoid that at Blair. But if your child doesn't have friends going to Blair, it may be a lonely culture shock.

Kid with all kinds of digestive bowel problems now. Thanks MCPS. A reporter should pick up this story. It's probably illegal for HS to have bathrooms kids can't have a bm or pee in. Imagine doing your best work filled up with shit?

Why are you even on this thread you troll.
If you were a Blair parent you would have read that the kid with the pellet gun did indeed also have a knife. Source is principal's letter from yesterday.

I think that once the data is all counted up, the peak of security incidents on MCPS HS campuses will be last year. That was the year of multiple knife/gun/fighting incidents around the county (including at schools DCUM would like you to believe are immune to such things).

Honestly, the trend line seems to be toward fewer incidents this year.

This is wishful, irresponsible thinking. Incidents have not dropped significantly. I agree last year was really bad, but the safety/security situation in MCPS high schools remains VERY concerning.

I think Principal Johnson has handled these situations very well. I am sad she is retiring. I hope we don’t get an “under the rug sweeper” in her place.

I do agree that Blair has really benefited from having a smart, capable, competent, communicative leader. Unfortunately, the rug sweepers appear to be a way more common occurrence in MCPS than leaders like Principal Johnson.

Renay Johnson is leaving big shoes to fill. I don't know if any of the current APs at Blair are ready to fill those shoes. The school district will need to bring its best talent to Blair to enable Blair's success.

I'm not aware of bathrooms being closed or anyone not being able to use them. Like all big schools there are safety issues at Blair and the bathroom situation is gross but I don't think it's anything out of the ordinary.

3 locker room rapes in MCPS high schools in two years.
Is that the hype you are referring to?

So the "lived experience" you were referring to is your lived experience of reading 3 year old news reports about incidents at MCPS high schools that are not the topic of this thread?
