But few here will apply because we know the Regents shut down OOs and international applications after the California voters got upset that their kids couldn’t get into the top UC schools. Besides they are too expensive for OOS even if you get in

In fact they weren’t even good schools a few years back but demand for more reasonably priced opportunities has driven up demand.

And finally - UCSD's research budget is 35% more than Oxford's and Princeton's ... combined. Of course, the quality of life in central NJ and South/Central UK has San Diego beat by a comfortable margin. Oh wait ...

Agree with in state Washington and UNC but you must be joking with UT Austin and and Florida. Ridiculously hard to get in from in state for those two. The smartest kids in state from Massachusetts look outside UMass, the smartest kids in Texas and Florida don’t. Both are on par with UCI and UCSD. Or at least same tier.

Accepted to all 4, 3 with significant (and needed) merit, to date.

Only 'reach' (within DC's desired driving range & program of interest) might've been UVA. Counselors classified it as a 'target' but we disagreed and, regardless...DC had zero, zip, nada interest to attend.

Even now, DC will struggle to chose as they genuinely liked all four. And money can't be a factor because all are within a +/- 10% range of each other when upfront merit is considered (there may be more scholarships or FA later, but the former is way more likely than the latter).

So the angst goes on. The FAFSA debacle just extends an already fret-filled process.

I assess that top 5-10 percent of UMD kids will match top quartile Ivy kids and the top 30 percent fo UMD will match the top 3 quartiles of Ivy.
