I’m starting to believe the theory that ECNL coaches were trying to get ahead of this news, so they spread this rumor of GA teams leaving. Play by play: Rumors that top GA clubs are leaving for ECNL. GA announces full membership with US Soccer. If clubs don’t end up leaving, then ECNL has to make a move. But not sure what other moves they have left to play. Holding these teams from getting in for this many years may now come back and bite them in the you know what |
On the flip side, with how big of a deal GA is making this out to be (whether it is or isn't is almost irrelevant for this convo), and big clubs STILL move from GA to ECNL, it surely has a bigger impact than it may have before? Time will tell if teams actually flip though, I have not heard a single thing from the clubs mentioned (confirmation or denial to be fair) so they are being tight-lipped, all the rumors seem to be coming from random people on Twitter and ECNL clubs. Not sure what that means, but seems to be the case. It is impossible to tell until there are announcements, maybe the GA will make a statement by announcing next years member clubs and these rumored clubs are included? |
Right. Those two accounts seem to lean more towards ECNL bias (rightfully so). So it’s hard to tell what the motive is. Yes, I think at this point, it’s out there that clubs are trying to leave. And I also think GA is aware of these rumors. Question is, do they end the speculation, or let it ride out. |
I can already tell you what the next move will be if any clubs move from GA to ECNL... NWSL will announce a homegrown rule. The clubs that left GA will be instantly screwed and their parents will be pissed. |
|
There is ZERO way that NWSL creates a league-tied homegrown rule.
NWSL focus is on creating a sustainable league financially (which kudos to them, appears to be happening vs previous iterations). They do not have the resources or bandwidth to enter the youth realm. Furthermore, the pros is about WINNING. They will take the players who they feel can help them further in that goal, they won't ignore a kid who is playing GA, ECNL, E64, National League, NPL, etc. Same with the National Teams.. the best (as perceived by the decision maker for selection coach/scout/gm) is what will get taken. |
| The ONLY NWSL youth program in the GA is OL Reign, and go take a peek at their results... in a very poor conference. |
You sure about that? All NWSL has to do is create a homegrown rule. Then take all the paperwork from MLS Next scratch out MLS Next and replace it with GA and they're done. |
|
I think folks are under estimating lot of things. GA announcing the membership is a big hit to ECNL. Whether the effects take place instantly or in the long run.
I believe GA has more tricks up their sleeve and have ECNL in a bad spot. |
Regardless of what the impact is to ga for this area there is no impact as there are not viable ga clubs. Fcv is a dumpster fire and syc is new. |
Yes. The reason being there is nothing in the by-laws of US Soccer (I did actually check, I would encourage others to as well) that would require or even encourage the NWSL to affiliate purely with the girls academy. If you are NWSL executives, and you are looking at the landscape without handcuffs (which are only perceived ones, at least currently) what choice do you make? The established dominant power league which contains the much higher % of talent and top level clubs, but also includes a crucial key piece, volume. The ECNL (including the Regional League) dwarfs the GA in terms of number of participating players & crucially future fans/ticket holders). |
MLS Next already has boys ECNL in a bad spot. Now GA is putting together the pieces needed to implement some form of NWSL Next. Which if implemented would probably do the same thing to girls ECNL that MLS Next has done to boys ECNL. Something else to consider is that MLS Next never forced clubs to join GA. ECNL forced clubs to play their boys in ECNL if they wanted their girls in ECNL. There's guaranteed to be some resentment. If MLS NWSL and GA all work together ecnl won't stand a chance |
Wishful thinking. This is the beginnings of DA 2.0 |
| The main source of players in nwsl is the college draft. It's not signing 17-year-olds. There might be two or three in the league and that's it. Pipe dream for most players except 0.00001% |
Good thing we don't have to worry about your kid trying out. However most people want their kid to at least try playing against the best of the best. On the boys this is what MLSN provides and why it's so popular. |
| ECNL is a member through US Club Soccer. All of the board members of US Club Soccer are ECNL owners. They are directly represented. |
