It's for 7/8th grade kids who take geometry or under, so you're right. |
Does anyone know what scores were needed to advance to state from any of the NoVa chapters, and what scores were needed at State to make it to Nationals? |
Many award winning performers take Geometry in 7th or 8th. But it's meant to be an introduction to contest math, so experienced competitors are good to defer to junior classmates. |
Chapter->State about 30-35 State->National embargoed until March 30, when all States will be done. Last year was 35, year before was 37. |
Varies by chapter, but probably a little higher for the last individual qualifier. Virginia was 34 last year and I think 38 before that. |
Virginia nationals qualifying was 34. Top four scored at least 7 target, everyone else was under 6. |
The test was substantially harder this year vs last year, when Virginia had an unusually low nationals cutoff score. |
What were the total scores for the top 3? |
I think 42, 38, 35. |
5th place student nearly snuck in as one of the top 4 did a poor job correcting an answer and nearly lost two points. |
Nationwide results:

Wow. The top Maryland scores were much lower than the top Virginia ones. That usually isn't the case. |
