Do we talk about emails from Superintendent (overdose)

Sanctimonious comes to mind.

I’m on the fence about whether it should be required for private schools, since private school is something people opt into and they can always leave/vote with their money if they disagree with things being “covered up” by administrators.

Most families with kids in public schools don’t have a choice.

+1

I honestly didn't know it was as bad as it is. The emails are sobering. I also watched Dr. Reid's interview with the parents of a child who died from an OD, which was heart wrenching.

My kids are still young elementary but we've already started our discussions. I am extremely concerned.

What gets me angry about these emails is that they only pertain to kids who are attending public schools. AND most of them don't even happen in the schools but once a police report is filed and then if the child is identified as a PUBLIC school student, no matter where the OD happened, the superintendent of that VA county/district has to notify the community.

Why does this not pertain to Private school children? The problem is also a huge issue in that community, its just covered up.
Bottom line EVERY parent should be talking to their kids about ANY drug. POT is even being laced with fentanyl.

It doesn’t pertain to private school students because Gov Arseface wants public schools to look as bad a possible.

Exactly this.

The bi-partisan bill in the Va legislature to codify Youngkin's executive order, that was overwhelmingly passed in the Senate (39 yes, 1 no, 1 no vote) also only pertains to public schools. Anyone want to guess why?

Part of the reason is that the VA Assembly has jurisdiction over public schools. Making private schools do anything is very hard, if not impossible.

WRONG. I am happy he's having Publics report.

I am not a fan of the Governor but I absolutely support the these emails because it is obvious from this thread alone that many parents had no idea how prevalent this issue really is in our communities.

Not sure about that. Marshall High School? Our neighborhood feeds there and we live in a 2million dollar house.

Is there a way to learn more about this issue. For instance, as a parent any child ODing is too many for me. These emails are raising awareness, but as compared to what? What is the average number of kids using drugs in public school in other counties? In our county? Is this being driven by another agenda with solutions? Like is there a goal for more police officers? More drug testing centers? More drug abstinence programs? Is this a rouse to get us to defund public schools and send kids to private or charter schools?

Marshall has plenty of apartments and low-income housing in its boundaries.

There is so much information on the FCPS website and the county website (including a dashboard that breaks overdoses down to age so you can see the numbers for under 18).
