Why did you move there given the small area plan that was enacted 13 years ago? If you already lived there 13 years ago (on the other side of Rt 1) did you protest the small area plan legislation? |
Being stupid and cocky is a job requirement for Mayor of Alexandria. There is no too stupid or too cocky to lead this town. That should be the city motto. Look at Euille. Took a huge bribe from a developer (cocky) and left the proof in his mayoral office for his political rival to find (stupid). But of course, Silverberg essentially shrugged it off too and it's been ignored by everyone. No one cares. |
Me too. Only voting for people who support it. |
A giant sports arena is vastly different than general development of retail, housing, education, etc. |
+1. But PP is a moron. I can't wait to laugh when this whole deal falls apart. |
|
In 2017 we affirmed the plan and added "entertainment" to the mix. So there's that.
You can laugh when I scooter by your home on my way to the arena. |

Great Alexandria Now Article on Alexandria's next mayor.
https://www.alxnow.com/2024/03/06/potomac-yard-arena-boils-down-to-four-issues-says-alexandria-mayoral-candidate-alyia-gaskins/ She's very impressive: "Gaskins has a bachelor’s degree in medicine, health and society from Vanderbilt University, a master’s in urban planning from Georgetown University, and a master’s of public health from the University of Pittsburgh and a certificate in municipal planning from the University of Chicago." Just from her education she's way more qualified to be mayor than any past mayors and the other candidates. Lovely quote about her family: "Gaskins says that she gets four-to-five hours of sleep on a good day, and that her family is committed to seeing her conduct city business. “What I do think I’ve been able to create in my life and will do as mayor is a harmony where I have found a way for all of the pieces to work together,” she said. “I recognize the demands that will be on my time, then it makes sense that will be on my family’s time. But this is something that we are fully committed to doing as our unit and making sure that as a unit we can serve and continue to deliver.” I wasn't going to vote for her but she does seem like the best option. |

Ah Amy Jackson ultimate flip flopper. This is so funny since she was so excited at the press conference for the arena.
https://thezebra.org/2024/03/18/amy-jackson-opposes-alexandria-sports-arena-project/ And she and Canek are advocating for a tax increase so big that Wilson won't even go that far. Love it. |
Good. She is listening to the taxpayers. No one wants the arena. Put it to a vote and see. |
Nah. She's a big flip flopper. I want the arena because I LOVE watching all the Alexandria hypocrites and NIMBYs freak out. You already voted for this! Enjoy! |
It's dead. |
Which is why it's safe now for Amy Jackson to go against it.
|
Which would mean she is listening to the taxpayers.
|
I wish it were dead. It’s not. |
She was so over the top enthusiastic at the press conference. She defended it at events and in conversations with constituents. Her quote isn't a good enough explanation for the flip flop. All the things she cites as reasons to back off she knew for at least months but had no problems with then. You can claim it's because she's listening to taxpayers. The reality is she just reveals herself as not very smart with zero backbone. But I already knew that. It doesn't matter. She's going to get trounced by Gaskins anyway. Either way, it's so delightful to watch my NIMBY neighbors freak out over the actions of the people they voted for. |
