Really? I read that in Paris you need to request an appointment the day before and adequately impress the sales associate. And still, they might not have Birkins in-store that day.

The PP has no clue, you can't just walk in and get one. For my lifestyle, a Birkin is not very practical, so I'm on the waiting list for a Kelly. I have a picotin 26 in clemence and the leather is TDF. I'd love a Lindy too in a fun color and a Constance 24. Lindy is not a quota bag but it sells right away, so it's also hard to get.

I have family in France. You can absolutely go buy one. Yes you have to have an appointment. But they don't make you do a song and dance. Also, get a better hobby my god.

My other hobby is making Americans jealous I bet that "French" family is in west Virginia.

I'm sorry you have such low self esteem. I hope a handbag fixes it.

Go touch them, they feel amazing. But they will probably not let you inside the store. You do not belong.

Sweetie I have a black card. I use it at target. Get a grip.

Typically for more than the retail.

Right?! Or rare ones, like this, for half a million. DCUM crowd is so clueless about fashion, art, or architecture.

You’re an idiot if you think an eBay listing means someone is actually going to pay that much.

You should look at what sells on 1st dibs. it's wild.

Lol. This is the type of person who fetishizes Hermes. Has to put people down because they are so insecure, that insecurity in turn feeds their need to buy logos. All to prove that they have self worth.

Life tip: invest in therapy rather than overpriced "stuff". You will be happier in the long run.

Even better advice: Delete tiktok and instagram. These insecure strivers are literally being brainwashed by these apps which they scroll for hours on end all day. It's nuts.

I don't shop at target.

Putting overpriced real housewives handbags in the same category as art and architecture doesn't prove the point you think it does.

I don't think you know the history of the bag or saw La Piscine. American peasants watching reality TV, of course.

What’s the game?

You buy work with the same SA and develop “a relationship” ie spend money. You develop a wish list. When something on your wish list or similar becomes available and if you “qualify”based on spend level and relationship, you SA will offer you the bag. Hence the term QB, qualifying bag. These are bags that don't go on the floor for general consumption, Birkins, Kelly etc.

There are other nuances and other paths but this is the general simple overview.

I think if men go in to buy for their wives they probably get to just buy the bag.

+1 I mean, there's still a waiting list, but men don't have to play the game. Make sure he's dressed well and buys something for himself, too.

A friend's husband was in New York for work about ten years ago. He went in and they tried to play the game with him and he was like just get me the bag and they did. So stupid.

I don't understand the point of the game. Are they trying to pretend these bags are a scarce commodity that only very special people are allowed to buy? Or is it not pretending? I don't get it.

Yes. They pretend you’re not worthy of owning one or you can’t afford it or don’t belong on the store just to make you feel like you have to prove yourself by buying it.

People, abusive sales people don’t deserve your money. Hermes is one of the rudest stores but many of them are rude.

Agree. When I read about the ridiculous “process” for being allowed to give a merchant several thousands of dollars I wonder if these buyers have lost all self-respect.

This has been the process since 1880, since the company moved to 24 Faubourg. This is not walmart.

PP here. This was in Boston. One of the kids cruising newbury street in their brand new Ferrari/Lambo, too cool for school.

Boston U? Circa 1998-2002? My sister graduated with that Saudi Prince. Said there was a whole entourage at the graduation

Do you think female logic ever makes sense?
Anonymous
^ Makes more sense than (internalized) misogyny. Because that’s what a portion of the hate on this thread is about right? A man spends $10k on a time piece and no says anything. His money, his choices. A woman buys a $$$ handbag (Birkin or not) and she’s suddenly dumb, a gold digger, etc.

The double standard is amazing.

Right? Don't forget about the luxury car, boat, hair implant, and viagra. My bag is 1/2 of a guy's yearly golf club membership, but I don't hear the outrage about that one.

I hope this is a true story.

Many Saudi or Gulf students pay for their essays. They know the price per page and know who does the job well. I very much doubt the bag was for an essay.

It’s rich people logic. I feel the same way about men and their car collections. Wasteful and silly and clearly they need to be taxed at a much higher rate.
