I would like to conduct a social experiment to put Birkin bags in the hands of mama June and Dance mom types and then see what happens to their so-called brand value. Although if they are already being carried by real housewives then we are almost there already.

I think of Kate Blanchett in "Blue Jasmine." She carries her Hermes bag as a show of wealth. She was almost lucky a second time to find another wealthy man to fund her lifestyle.

She spirals into madness.

All of this, I’m not anti anything but this bag is supposed to be a workhorse yet the size/weight just makes it frustrating

What’s the game?

You buy work with the same SA and develop “a relationship” ie spend money. You develop a wish list. When something on your wish list or similar becomes available and if you “qualify”based on spend level and relationship, you SA will offer you the bag. Hence the term QB, qualifying bag. These are bags that don't go on the floor for general consumption, Birkins, Kelly etc.

There are other nuances and other paths but this is the general simple overview.

I think if men go in to buy for their wives they probably get to just buy the bag.

I think this is true. I had no luck even looking at a bag in NYC, then 2x in Paris. On both Paris trips after I tried and they had nothing to show me, my DH went in and they said they'd have bags to show him, and they gave him a time to return that afternoon. Both times he got a Birkin.
