Nikki Haley - What are the chances

She won't get any votes from anyone who purports to be pro-women's health.

I'm a D all the way - and I think Haley could very well win if she's the GOP nominee. And I'd hate a lot of what she does as president, and I think we'd survive it as a country. I am not TERRIFIED over the prospect of her being president. I just wouldn't like it.

I think Trump's chances are worse, but he's a much bigger risk to our existence if he wins. Plus he's just so exhausting. Every second of him is exhausting and terrifying in equal measure. I cannot bear the thought of another Trump presidency.

I'd rather Haley be the nominee and risk the chance of her winning than Trump, even if his chances of winning are worse.

Nikki Haley seems like a good middle of the road choice and she has a background in government.
Any thoughts? MAGA crazies need not reply.

Her chances are Slim to none and Slim has left the building. Chris Christie is correct when he says that if Trump is not the GOP nominee, he will run as a third party candidate
The GOP loss will make Goldwater's loss to Johnson look like a huge win.

I think Christie is right. Trump will destroy the GOP--and the country if given the chance--before he admits defeat. He has no loyalty to the GOP as a party, individual Republican voters, or the country. He does not GAF about anyone except himself.

Trump can't give up because of his misguided belief that he can pardon himself and stay out of prison!

She is barely polling in the double digits, and trump is in the mid 60% range.

It isn't close. Trump will be the nominee, barring death.

Right there with you. Haley isn't a threat to the USA and the world order the way Trump is.

+1...Haley might be another George W. Bush who, while not great by any means, scored points by not being Trump.

RNC is pushing her hard bc they think she will get liberal leaning suburban women. However the RNC hasn’t actually controlled or influenced the Republican voter base for at least the last two presidential elections and it won’t be any different this time.

If she’s going to go along with the 2025 project, it doesn’t matter. And Heritage Foundation says it’s for all Republican candidates. She would have to come out and explicitly state she will under no circumstances use those referrals and policy advisements.

What is this 2025 project that you’re carrying on about? The most I’ve heard about it is that it’s Republican donors’ plan for overturning trans gains and such. If so, then you need to get a clue. Our very democracy is at stake. If voting in Nikki Haley means Trump stays far away from the presidency, then that’s what we’re going to do even if it means RuPaul can’t use the women’s bathroom.

This. I wish people would get this (on both sides). Stop sacrificing the good of the whole for a few issues that don't apply to most people. As a pro choice woman of color, I am not losing my marbles over a 20 week abortion ban. I will just make sure my DDs have easy access to contraception. I am also not going to lose my mind if LGBTQ+ curriculums become optional or if schools don't assign trans bathrooms. We should be focused on the economy, rising cost of healthcare, lags in education and gun control. This is what impacts most people.

I strongly recommend you actually read the "project 2025" materials rather than getting such information through this thread. You are setting yourself up for the "Leopards Eating faces" party with your thought process.

Liberal leaning suburban women aren’t idiots. We’ve read the Handmaids Tale. We saw what happened when the GOP stuck the real Handmaiden ACB on the court. We recognize that plenty of our own are nothing more than self-hating Pickmeshas.

Give us a fiscal conservative with an emphasis on families and education and minding your own business, and the GOP might get somewhere. Sadly, they don’t have much of those left. They’ve been run out by the fascists and the cult freaks.

Don't underestimate the appeal of mentally stable.

We have very mentally unstable on one side. And a physically unstable geriatric on the other.

A sane 51 year old would win a lot of votes just for being a sane 51 year old. And if she does somehow win the nomination, she would run the table on Biden. She'd win in a landslide.

I disagree with Haley on a lot of things, but I like her temperament. The bar is so low that being reasonably healthy and rational is enough to win the presidency.

I agree with all the above but I don't think she'll win. I think change is a very very hard concept for human beings. She is a 51 woman running on the GOP ticket. That right there is change. If she does win the GOP nomination, I just don't know that she'll be able to win the whole country. As much as I would like to believe she holds the advantage over old man Biden, Biden is tried and true, an old white man incumbent and the fact is, as much as I'm not happy to vote for him, I can't abide by GOP policies on abortion/guns/etc. I don't know what I would do. I think in this country there are certain powerful people who end up truly electing POTUS. I'm not sure she can sway them.

It's still relatively early and I do think that Trump has his hands full with legal troubles.
But to be fair, I also don't know that she can carry the day for GOP ticket. She's a woman in MAGA country. It depends on the powers that be. Cause really people, there are powerful people in the US with money who influence elections. Enough of them leaned Trump last time and I don't know that they are all going to go his way this time around. If they go for her, she will do it but at a price. The problem with her is I think she will happily be a puppet for them.

He doesn't even have to pardon himself. His AG can drop all of the federal cases. The state cases are an unknown. Dicta in Clinton v Jones suggests they may be barred, but courts have never been faced with the question.
