If everyone stopped buying name brand and only bought store brand generic prices would go down they're getting away with it because people are paying these outrageous prices.

People - it's time for some major boycotting of prepared/processed foods.

Packaged Cereals: Boycott! They are processed rice, corn, oats or wheat. Just make hot rice cereal, oatmeal, grits or cornbread, or cream of wheat cereal. Top with a little sweetener and chopped fruit or nuts.

Snacks: make popcorn, eat apples. Stop buying chips and crackers. Eat whole grain bread with a little topping like butter, jam, nut butter, olive oil, etc.

Sodas and Juices - Boycott completely. Drink tap water (filtered if necessary) and eat whatever fruit is in season.

Desserts: Boycott the fancy expensive packaged things on a stick or frozen pies etc. Bake cookies, cakes and pies from scratch if you like to bake. Or just eat fruit and nuts for dessert. Or some yogurt with a little vanilla and fruit. Baked apples with cinnamon. Sauteed bananas topped with syrup... simple and cheap.

It's because the cost of growing, processing and shipping food has gone up substantially.

Supermarkets have the lowest profit margins of businesses out there. Shoppers are extremely price sensitive so supermarkets can't afford to raise prices beyond comparable markets. The reason we're seeing all these increases across all supermarkets is because of inflation. Money is being devalued.
