MCPS run international trips

It really doesn't add up. Round trip flights for 4 people is 2500 right there. Even if you managed to stay in a $125 a night hotel with taxes you're now $4000. There would have to be feeding 4 people for 100/day with no sightseeing or transportation for it to be under 5k

I don't find myself becoming mad that a person who coordinates and chaperones my kid for a week should get their trip comped. Honestly the petty people out there are something else.

I’ve received dozens of emails over the years about these trips and I’ll say it again other than a rare occasion they DO NOT make it clear that they are not school trips. It is very misleading.

MCPS runs an international trip for middle schoolers - not a private firm. SSIMS French immersion kids go to Paris. SSIMS Spanish kids go to Colombia. All the immersion teachers go. Parents have to pick up some of the financial slack but there’s fundraising. It’s definitely unique in the county and a neat opportunity for the immersion kiddos.

They cannot tutor their own students as it’s a conflict of interest. They can have side gigs but not advertise them through the school making parents believe it’s mcps sponsored.
