Emory is still the best school in the state. Top 25 school for undergrad while, Gatech is Top 50. The difference is UGA has gotten much better and has been able to almost match Gatech in the rankings. And now it's Law school is the best in the state so great for UGA but for pretty much every other subject Emory offers, Emory is better.

at football.
There, finished that sentence for you

Wrong. U Georgia won the National Championship in football in 1980.

UGA has grown in popularity far faster than the others.

Paying basically nothing for an in-state high stats student to attend UGA rather than $80k to attend Emory is a no-brainer.

I honestly don't think it's a no brainer. GaTech I could understand the decision to save money but UGA isn't there yet, and no wise parent who could afford it would choose otherwise.

It is a no-brainer. The ROI of the same major at UGA and Emory is roughly the same. The wise parent with lots of money would use that money for graduate school or for a down-payment on a house for their kid.

Your point is that UGA's popularity has something or nothing to do with its National Championship over 40 years ago?

Give all the money to those football players.

+1 and Athens in a fun town

I live in Georgia. Virtually all students get some form of HOPE scholarship. Zell Miller is for top performers, but even with a 2.5 GPA, you'll get a HOPE scholarship. This means that competition for state schools is intense.

Georgia Tech is regarded as best, then UGA. For privates, Mercer is talked about more than Emory these days. The HBCUs in ATL are also well regarded.

I wouldn't pick Tech over UGA for a non-STEM major.

You must live in the country/real areas. GATech is only the best at some STEMs. Uga is better for a lot of other things. And most Georgia students have no chance at an Emory acceptance so I can see why they don't talk about it much.

Not sure what you are smoking, but as an Atlanta resident no one is talking about Mercer over Emory.

Did your kid get into both? Where are they leaning?

+1. UGA is the flagship and the top public choice for in state kids unless they want a specific stem field at Tech.

+1 UGA is good but people in Herr are hyping it up because their DC's can't get into better schools.

You don’t get it. UGA is the type of school people want now and consider it a top choice.

My DD is considering as one of her final choices for the fall. She just wasn’t interested in applying to places like Emory and we tried repeatedly to get her to consider. She was thrilled to be accepted to UGA.
