We visited both this year and the only she liked about Wisconsin was the lake. She really likes UGA. |

Completely untrue. Just under 30% of students are in a fraternity or sorority. I don't see percentages for each, but it's not even close to the majority of students. Plenty of ways to "fit in" on campus and in Athens. |

NP. I must be an idiot, because I can't find this sort of information (i.e., how many students from a certain undergrad enroll in a PhD program of a certain subject) by "doing my own damn Googling". My son is interested in pursuing a PhD in Econ (maybe) so a link would be super helpful. I can't find that information anywhere!! Can you post? |

The fact that you referred to it as "UW-M" renders your opinion useless. Anyone with a modicum of familiarity with the school knows it's not UW-M! (University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee is the school that's referred to as UWM). |

Statistically, UGA Honors College students have higher numbers than do Middlebury College students. Average SAT for a recent incoming class of UGA Honors College students was 1517/1600 and average GPA was about 4.06. The most recent Honors College class saw the average SAT slip to 1506. Interesting to compare as both Middlebury College & UGA Honors College have about the same number of students = 2,800 students. Academically, UGA Honors students are superior, but the geographic diversity of students at Middlebury College is superior to that of the UGA Honors College. Within UGA Honors College are the Foundation Fellows whose numbers are higher than the averages for UGA Honors College overall. There are 20 students admitted as Foundation Fellows each year. The most recent averages were 1544 SAT / 35 ACT and average GPA of 4.21. |

Good question. UGA campus is prettier and Athens is more traditional college town. Madison felt more urban and she didn’t like the food. The tour and info session at UGA were superior. I imagine she also didn’t like how cold Madison was. |

Continuing: The size and structure of UGA and UGA Honors College is dramatically different from Middlebury College. Although Middlebury & UGA honors College both have about 2,800 students, UGA overall has about 28,000 undergraduate students plus graduate programs including a top 20 law school, an MBA program, and a veterinary school. The variety of majors and courses offered at the Univ. of Georgia are exponentially higher than those at Middlebury, but how many course options do undergraduate students really need. https://honors.uga.edu/admissions/why-honors/ Most Honors College students at the University of Georgia are state residents and attend tuition free due to statewide scholarships for Georgia residents. |

If a student was accepted to both Middlebury College and to UGA Honors College, the decision as to which school to attend might be based upon cost as all Georgia residents would attend the Honors College tuition free due to statewide scholarship programs for Georgia residents.
Otherwise, the experiences at Middlebury & at UGA Honors College would be very different and the choice would depend upon student preferences and interests. My best guess is that few students apply to both Middlebury College and to UGA Honors College. UGA Honors College applicants are much more likely to apply to Ivy League schools, Georgia Tech, or Duke than to any LAC including Middlebury College. |
