Which would you hate more: Commanders leave DC, or Commanders stadium in your neighborhood?

I live in Ward 1. There's no place in Ward 1 to locate such a large facility. Ward 5 maybe? I can't imagine there being land available anyplace but the existing site.

This was me, a year and a half ago! I want the Commanders in DC, I think the RFK location is great, and while I wish they had a new name, the energy and excitement they bring to DC makes it all worthwhile to me and a large number of DC residents.

They will get a new name, hopefully Red Tails (my first choice as well)

They key is HOW they implement a new stadium while also building out the city to the watershed.

Happy to have them, but I don't want to pay hundreds of millions or billions in subsidies out of my tax dollars. There are less than a million people in DC. A billion dollar subsidy is equivalent to taking more than $1,000 from everyone in the city and giving it to the rich owners. There might be some economic benefit, but not nearly enough to make up for the cost.

The city would need to build infrastructure and prep the land regardless of whether it is a stadium or 10 city blocks of new city living. So I don't mind taxpayers covering that cost. as to the stadum construction itself, that should be on the team, unless the city can get a favorable bond rating and a better lease deal as a revenue stream. The Nats park deal has worked out very well financially for the city. But football is a different value proposition.

The Continuing Resolution with the stadium legislation just got tanked by Elon Musk who also tweeted that this stadium deal was ridiculous pork. LOL.

It is funny that DC thought that it would be so easy to get free federal land to give away to a billionaire NFL owner through a backdoor process in Congress. Let them buy the land.

You are insane. The idea of giving away the RFK property to billionaire Josh Harris just because it would make you feel better to have the football team play in the city is just about the dumbest reasoning possible. The NFL and Harris will certainly demand another behemoth stadium in the face of declining ticket sales and stick DC and neighborhood residents with a giant stadium and parking lots, etc. Fewer people attend NFL games in person than ever before and without drastically reducing ticket prices and the in-person experience, this seems unlikely to change.

I would begrugingly accept a stadium slightly larger than Audi Field, around 40k, but I doubt the team and the NFL would go for it. So I hope a new stadium deal fails. No Commanders at RFK!

Here is my take, if the Federal government is going to dispose of land then they should follow the same process that they used for BRAC and auction it. If DC and/or Harris want it for a stadium, they can bid on it for fair market value along with anyone else.

I don't think I'll go to DC and I don't think they want to move to DC. Parking was terrible when they were in DC. And now with all the crime in DC and on the metro, forget it I'm not going. Crime in DC is out of control.

Norton actually put forth a bill proposing to buy the land a few years ago. Bill was dropped same as every other bill when the city tries to do anything with the land.
