Which would you hate more: Commanders leave DC, or Commanders stadium in your neighborhood?

This was me, a year and a half ago! I want the Commanders in DC, I think the RFK location is great, and while I wish they had a new name, the energy and excitement they bring to DC makes it all worthwhile to me and a large number of DC residents.

You are insane. The idea of giving away the RFK property to billionaire Josh Harris just because it would make you feel better to have the football team play in the city is just about the dumbest reasoning possible. The NFL and Harris will certainly demand another behemoth stadium in the face of declining ticket sales and stick DC and neighborhood residents with a giant stadium and parking lots, etc. Fewer people attend NFL games in person than ever before and without drastically reducing ticket prices and the in-person experience, this seems unlikely to change.

I would begrugingly accept a stadium slightly larger than Audi Field, around 40k, but I doubt the team and the NFL would go for it. So I hope a new stadium deal fails. No Commanders at RFK!

Here is my take, if the Federal government is going to dispose of land then they should follow the same process that they used for BRAC and auction it. If DC and/or Harris want it for a stadium, they can bid on it for fair market value along with anyone else.

Norton actually put forth a bill proposing to buy the land a few years ago. Bill was dropped same as every other bill when the city tries to do anything with the land.

Yes. Musk will never allow the land swap to happen. So we’ll likely have to wait 4 more years or longer for a new stadium with housing and parkland there.

What “swap” are you referring to?

ESPN just reported the chances of the Commanders relocating to DC are now practically nil. The land transfer from the federal government would’ve allowed the city to develop the land with a stadium. Musk is against it and sees these “back room deals” as the type of “pork” DOGE has promised to eliminate once and for all.

You missed that Elon totally lied about the stadium deal in the CR.

What did he lie about?

Since the land is being provided for free, it is a massive subsidy to a billionaire. I cannot believe that Democrats defend this.

You called it s “swap”, which implies that the federal government would get something of equal value in return. It is not a “swap” but a free land transfer and it is a quintessential “back room deal”.

Then maybe the federal government should have acted back in 2019 when DC actually put forth a bill to buy it at fair market value.

The bottom line is that the Federal government continues to hold onto a wasteland of asphalt and litter with no benefit to itself whatsoever, at the expense of DC residents.

Glad to know that if the Feds don’t act on my request to buy Yellowstone I will get it for free in 5 years.

Thanks for confirming that Federal lands needs to be maximized for their economic benefit. There’s a lot of “wastelands” in the west that could otherwise have productive oil and gas fields benefiting local economies.

Have at it.

You mean national parks? You are comparing that to the bit of littered asphalt in the middle of the city? If congress prefera DC have the land then actually allow a bill to go through when DC tries. Trump's campaign promise included making DC great again. Actually doing something with the RFK site might mean he is not all full of hot air.

Maybe Trump can build a nice golf course resort with clubhouse on the RFK site. Perhaps with a nice leisure lake as well.
