Which would you hate more: Commanders leave DC, or Commanders stadium in your neighborhood?

And if you'd LOVE to have the Commanders local to you because of that sweet sweet economic promise, I guess let us know that too.

I'd hate the Commanders stadium in my neighborhood more, no question.

I want the commanders to have a better name (red tails was my choice, sigh) and to be in DC. I'd like them to be at a new RFK (though i don't want to lose the fields there, which are a pain in the butt to get to but at least a decent facility in DC.

I live in Ward 1. There's no place in Ward 1 to locate such a large facility. Ward 5 maybe? I can't imagine there being land available anyplace but the existing site.

Sadly, the Redskins are dead and buried.
No one cares about the Commoders despite what local media hype like WTOP is trying to make you believe.

They should move.

I think they should really be at RFK. If I lived near it, I would welcome it. I don't want them where I currently live because there's no space for a stadium here.

I have no problem with them leaving and one million percent would not want that stadium anywhere near me.

I live in Capitol Hill and would hate to have a new stadium replace RFK.

First, that's a huge amount of space that could be filled with houses, apartments, restaurants, playing fields, schools, shops - basically an entire neighborhood. In contrast, a stadium is used 8 days a year for three hours.

Second, it would be a huge waste of money. Whenever a stadium is built, cities end up paying a tremendous amount of money for very little benefit. See https://www.taxpolicycenter.org/taxvox/vegas-washington-dc-suckers-bet-publicly-funded-sports-stadiums

There is no land in most of the city unless you either clean up a superfund site (and if you're paying for it, why give it to a team) or give up parkland.

Any scenario where taxpayer money is used for the commanders in any way.

They should get $0.

The Commanders can't "leave" DC because the Commanders are not in DC, they are in Landover, which is in Prince George's County, Maryland.

Would I care if the Commanders moved to Albuquerque or Des Moines or Butte or wherever? No, I wouldn't.

Right, that's what is confusing about the premise. Are the Commanders considering moving to another city? I don't care if they do but didn't realize that was on the table, especially since they have been touting the local ties of the new owner group.

Sorry I'm the OP and I should have written DMV vs DC in the subject.

They aren't at all talking about leaving - it just seems like no one actually want to have a stadium near them...so if the team requires a new stadium, where the heck does it go? Richmond?

I would hate a stadium in my neighborhood. I live in Capitol Hill and am very strongly against a stadium at RFK. What a waste of a prize piece of land and opportunity to benefit the residents of DC (not a slightly better billionaire than the last one). Honestly I could care less if the Commanders left DC. And for the record I also grew up in DC.

They stay where they are. Land is expensive and if the government is going to just give it away there are other public uses that most people would prefer

I would hate to see them have a stadium in DC. Football stadiums are one of the worst returns on investment for a municipality, especially an urban one. A giant stadium surrounded by parking lots and used 8 times a year is a colossal waste of land.

Anyone who thinks the team should have a stadium in DC should not be taken seriously.
