Oh, suddenly not interested in a taxpayer handout anymore? Thought so.

The current stadium was 100% financed by the former owner. I don’t think the current crop necessarily needs handouts.

There’s almost always at least a tax break on use of the land, not to mention all the roads and other municipal support required to handle an influx of 50k people a few times a year. I have to think direct subsidies are a no go here… but these are subsidies too and easier to slip under the radar.

+1. Dozens of acres of free land, free new roads, free new infrastructure, hundreds of millions in interest-free loans. That's easily a billion in hidden corporate welfare right there.

Not a chance. Harris was from MD as was another of the primary investors. MD people don’t like VA.

Or what if we offered the Commanders a one-way ticket out of town? We so don't need a football team. And the RFK campus could be turned into a second Rock Creek Park by the waterfront.

It looks like DC ended up paying $183 million to get Audi Field: https://www.mercatus.org/economic-insights/expert-commentary/dc-taxpayers-fund-nearly-half-new-stadium-costs

Ugh.

This is true. Harris, Mitchell Rales and Mark Ein are all from MoCo.

First, how would it effect housing values and quality if life for people in that area?

Second, what should go in place of RFK to bring money and development there?

Lots of land in Potomac. Surely residents will jump at something as great for the community as an NFL stadium. Maybe Ein can build near his home and reap all the benefits that the team will talk about when they are pitching it to local governments

RFK! RFK!

World class cities have sports venues. Why would we not want DC to become a world class city?

This will dramatically benefit NE/SE DC over the long term.

Nats park has been one of the biggest changes to the city. The area was foul before, now it is absolutely bustling. Nats park is a fantastic baseball experience -- i've been to every baseball stadium in the US.

DC has sports venues - as you yourself said.

There are plenty of world class cities that don't have NFL stadiums, for example London, Paris, Tokyo, Mexico City, Lagos, Sydney, Buenos Aires...

Like New York's NFL stadium in New Jersey? And San Francisco's in Santa Clara? Perfectly happy to join the ranks of world-class cities that let the suburbs fall for the football stadium scams.

What a stupid comment. Why does it matter if it’s a nfl stadium or cricket stadium?

The NFL is one of the largest revenue streams for sports/advertisements.
